The following article from the Kimble County Library did not make it into this week’s newspaper because it was received after deadline. However, since the information is time-sensitive, we are sharing it here on our page.

Summer Kickoff hopefully will not be Summer Washout. This weather reminds me of summers growing up in Southeast Texas. Rain every day. Sure can’t complain about the temperature, though! We’ve had some delightful mornings and evenings for this late in the month of May.
Currently, the weather forecast for this Thursday looks superb, however. I am hopeful that our Summer Kickoff will be uninterrupted by any meteorological shenanigans. Just remember that the Summer Kickoff event is a pool party, so meet down at the City Pool around 11. Free food will be provided by the library’s awesome Friends of the Library group. Small snow cones will also be available for free to kids in attendance.
The next week, the library will be hosting our first official Summer Performer. Rob Holla the Magical Balloon Guy will be here to perform his “The Balloon-osaurus Show.” As you might have guessed already, his show this year has a strong dinosaur theme. I’m sure it will go over very well with the kids. He’s a highly interactive performer who works to make his shows fun, entertaining, educational, and personal! Come join us on Friday, June 5 at 10:30 a.m. over in the Methodist Church Gym for a grand time!
In other news, we plan on launching a fun, community-wide reading challenge for the summer (and probably one that will bleed over into the school year). It will be all hands on deck to complete this challenge. We are thinking about a 1,000,000-minute reading challenge over a 120-day period. According to Google, this would take 1,000 people reading 20 minutes a day 50 days to complete. We’re a small town, so getting 1,000 people to participate may be difficult. However, with a couple of hundred people, I think we can get it done. We’ve got some intense readers who read way more than 20 minutes a day. I think we can do this, do you? Stay tuned for when we go live with this, as it will be very, very soon.
