Welcome to my Political Blog. I am gonna start using this daily so that people can better understand me & where my views are on different topics.
Question 1: Who are your favorite political hero(s), and why?
For starters, I am a States Rights Advocate, and a Anti-Federalist as well. I believe in Limited Government & the right of the individual states to their own sovereignty, and decision making.
The federal government is supposed to remain small and only be there to back up the States in emergency situations. We obviously have moved away from that. Hopefully soon, we can take back our states and start using the Nullification Power.
With that being said, my two favorite political figures would have to be John C. Calhoun and Patrick Henry. They are the epitome of states rights and limited government politics.
Patrick Henry gave a fiery speech at the Second Convention in Richmond Virginia in 1775, stating
"Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death."
John C. Calhoun is considered one of the most staunch defenders of States rights in the United States Senate.
He supported the use of the Nullification Power (10th Amendment in the U.S Constitution). One good example of this happens to be the Nullification Crisis of 1832. South Carolina threatened to secede from the Union because of Tariffs. Eventually they came to a compromise and South Carolina stayed in the Union for another 28 years.
All of that to say, those two are definitely my favorite political figures. They both had their highs and lows but their support of Limited Government, States Rights, and Anti-Federalist Policies, have always interested me.
