Fireflies are still dancing around and here’s some science for your “ wee” ones , who I hope are as inspired and mystified by these fantastic creatures of nature as I was back in the day

Keep an area with tallish native grasses and leaf litter. A stack of old firewood and the grass that grows around it is a perfect welcoming spot.
The adults eat pollen and nectar , so a diverse collection of flowers and your elimination of pesticides will help to encourage them. They adore rain and water gardens .

I clean my entire house with just 4 ingredients – Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soap, Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner, baking soda & white vinegar. Not only do these get the job done as well as any conventional cleaner, but they're really inexpensive, especially when you look at the cost per use as well as whole life cycle impact (no health or environmental impacts to take care of later).
