Continuing with my own celebration of 20 years of STEAM Museum, Swindon, with a look at the main attractions....the locomotives. Today I'm posting a few views of GWR 2800 Class No.2818 Heavy Goods locomotive
From Wikipedia:
"Six 2800 class locomotives survive, these being 2807, 2818, 2857, 2859, 2873, 2874, along with nine 2884 class locomotives. A seventh survivor was used to provide parts for other projects. Only two members of the class have so far operated in preservation, these being: 2807 and 2857, currently only 2857 is operational whilst 2807 is under overhaul which began in early 2020. One of the class, no. 2857, briefly operated on the main line in 1985."

A little throwback to one of my favorite catches of the year on this ! An all EMD consist sits tied down on NS 23E in Irondale with all three locomotives being a different model. Leading that day was a thundercab ACe with an isolated cab MAC second and a standard cab Death Star third. 📅06.12.2022

Amtrak Lake Shore Limited 449 arrives at Worcester Union Station with the 40th Anniversary Phase III Heritage Unit leading. Amtrak's equipment wore Phase III for many years, and it's one of their most iconic looks. Enjoy!

Continuing my celebration with the loco collection; today I turn my attention to their sole-surviving GWR 2301 Class No.2516 (also known as Deans Good Class)
steammuseum
From Wikipedia:
"Swindon railway works built 260 of these goods locomotives between 1883 and 1899 to a design of William Dean. The 2301 class broke with previous GWR tradition in having inside frames only and changes were made in the boiler design during the period that they were being built. The first twenty engines were originally domeless though all were provided with domed boilers in due course. They were numbered 2301–2360 and 2381–2580 (2361–2380 were of the 2361 class, which were similar visually but had outside frames)."

GWR 9400 Class No.9400 at STEAM Museum, Swindon. The museum is celebrating 20 years and I'm currently celebrating with them on Insta!
steammuseum .
From Wikipedia:
"The Great Western Railway 9400 Class is a class of 0-6-0 pannier tank steam locomotive, used for shunting and banking duties. The first ten 9400s were the last steam engines built by the GWR. After nationalisation in 1948, another 200 were built by private contractors for British Railways."

Continuing with my feature series of STEAM Museum, Swindon, is the non-working replica of GWR (Broad Gauge) 2-2-2 North Star
From preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.com:
"North Star was the first GWR locomotive, although originally built for the 5ft 6in gauge New Orleans Railway. North Star arrived at Maidenhead Bridge by barge on 28 November 1837; on 31 May 1838 it worked the inaugural train for the company’s directors. In 1854 it was rebuilt with 16in × 18in cylinders and the wheelbase lengthened by a foot. It was withdrawn in 1871 but kept at Swindon, along with Lord of the Isles, until 1906 when it was cut up."

NS 29S departs Irondale in this ! When the train arrived it originally had an all EMD consist including UP 1982 trailing fourth with mechanical issues. While in Irondale the leader also suffered some issues and after the mechanical department could not resolve them the decision was made to bring the crew back to the shops to pick up an UP GEVO that had just come in on another train and have it become the new 29S leader. 📅10.16.2022
