1 Corinthians 9:18-25 King James Version (KJV)

18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
23 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

Ever since the passing of Ozzy Osbourne, I’ve felt a sadness and found myself reflecting. I keep wondering—did he know God? Did he ever accept Christ into his life? I truly believe that the power of Christ’s death on the cross extends to all, even those whose work, like Ozzy’s music, may seem dark or even satanic in nature.

Out of curiosity, I googled whether Ozzy Osbourne was a Satanist. I didn’t find a definitive answer either way. But after his death, I noticed several reports mentioning that he used to pray before every show. That really struck me—how does someone pray to God and then go on to perform music with such dark themes? It feels contradictory, even ironic.

I came across a post from National Geographic—well, “Nat Geo” as they go by now (everything is shorthand these days, but that’s a convo for another time). The post wasn’t shocking, but it did reinforce what many already suspected about the nature of his music. What stood out to me most wasn’t the lyrics or the theatrics, but the focus on the chords used in the song Black Sabbath.

Now, I’m no expert on musical theory—my experience pretty much ended after 5th grade band—but it fascinated me that something as simple as a chord could carry spiritual weight. It reminded me of how, in 1 Samuel 16:14-23, David played the harp to soothe Saul’s tormented spirit. Music has power. Just as lyrics can influence us, so can the sound and spirit behind the music itself.

I know this may seem like an extreme example—most people that may stumble across this post probably aren’t bumping Ozzy Osbourne (unless it’s a Lil John Sample). But it raises a deeper question: what music are we letting into our ears and spirits that stirs us in ways that aren’t drawing us closer to God?

This isn’t a judgmental post. I’m not here to debate whether Christians should listen to secular music. I just want to bring awareness—to the power of music, and to the subtlety of the enemy’s tactics.

With heavy hearts, we share the heartbreaking news that Malcolm-Jamal Warner has passed away, reportedly due to an accidental drowning.

At just 14 years old, Warner rose to fame portraying Theo Huxtable, the only son of Clair and Cliff Huxtable, on the beloved series The Cosby Show. His performance over the show’s eight-season run earned him both an NAACP Image Award and an Emmy nomination.

He continued to shine in other notable roles, including Malcolm & Eddie, where he starred as Malcolm McGee, a young entrepreneur navigating life and business with his roommate Eddie Sherman (played by Eddie Griffin). The UPN sitcom was set in a fictionalized Kansas City, Missouri. In the show, Malcolm and Eddie eventually own Kelly’s Bar, which was inspired by Kelly’s Westport Inn, a real-life historic bar located in Kansas City. The series highlighted Warner’s comedic range and on-screen charisma.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner leaves behind a legacy of memorable performances and will be deeply missed by fans and peers alike.
