Happy Friday. I hope your weekend is filled with color. And though life has been tough on you, may your edges remain soft, and your walls come down long enough to find love and smell the flowers along the way.

You are the beauty in this world.

Posing, Directing and Letting Go.

Early in my career I found that over-directing didn't give couples the chance to be themselves. That's when I pulled from my extensive theater background and began setting the scene for my lovely couples. They know where to stand, and I back away, allowing them to interact with each other naturally. Sometimes they will engage with me, most of the time it's a little break where they get to be with each other.

I will work around the couple, showing them a few photos to start. This gives them confidence, because the photos really are pretty and they look amazing. Then I wait for the right gesture, a kind traditional bow, or a whisper of love, whatever comes to them. Next the couple will turn to me, and without saying a word, it is time to reset; I return a smile and transform their natural movements into a new scene.

Environments are important, but the people mean more. No matter where we are in the world, find the location where you feel like your best self, and fall in love, I'll be there to catch you.

If you haven't noticed, my feed is Pink. I decided to have a series of pink images and use my Social Media posting for practice in fine tuning my color edits.

Each of the photos in my feed have been taken with an emphasis on pink already. Pink isn't even my favorite color, but it is pretty. Something delicate about it. This color has moved beyond "girly" and past "bubble gum pop" into a world of refinement. With so many shades of pink, we can push and pull emotions with every shade.

Very few brands use the color pink, however the color is found in nature all over the world. When muted, the color is calming and elegant.

When I was going for this color aesthetic, I knew that Chrissy had to be a part of it. She is stunning and talented in so many ways. This young actress is living her dreams in NY. I wanted her to be beautiful and strong with a pink that didn't over power but pulled you in with warmth, giving you the coolness of her eyes that become our striking color contrast.

Privacy, Weddings, and the increased demand for control from couples.

I am not surprised that couples no longer want to be on display for a sea of strangers, that is the internet. Our relationships and marriages are not some eye candy for the passers-by to pass by with each swipe of our scrolling fingers. Some things are sacred.

Once images have been intertwined in a web of social commentary, it’s nearly impossible to take it back.

With the flood of images that find their way to the internet, privacy and autonomy are hard to come by. I have been photographing privately for decades now. The one thing I can say is that those who want to show their wedding do it for a reason, and it isn’t about showing off or being in a tabloid. And this coming from an artist who has been published numerous times.

At the first wedding Marco and I photographed the couple had an amazing story, the bride having never been kissed, had her first kiss at the altar. A doctor and her groom mixing cultures and innovatively celebrating their love was another time the couple was excited to share their story. Or the lovely immigrant families who have come together to raise beautiful children, and imbraced their union with a unique celebration. All of these stories were filled with joy, the intentions were pure and kind, just like the dedications and speeches throughout the night. They love the art, they love their love. But the share has a purpose, it isn’t a contest of opulence but a statement of the heart.

I have been doing this too long for it to be a trend, it’s about autonomy. There are times when people will allow me to share and I am grateful. As an artist, I may share because the image is an outstanding piece of art. It is possible for the story to not be ours to tell but one to capture. Over the years I grew to specialize in private weddings, honoring what isn’t seen for consumption, and putting museum-quality art in homes.

When everyone is loud, the biggest flex is to be quiet.

Pointe shoes are a ballerina's boxing gloves.

For the love of all things dance. I looked at her shoes and thought of boxing gloves. A pair tied, wrapped around the neck of a fighter as they walk into the arena. When I saw the string of used shoes, all I could think of was that her feet were those fists. And these shoes told a great story about a different kind of battle.

When I photograph love and vulnerability it creates a different kind of art for my couples.

I found this little area at the venue, off to the side and quiet, where two lovely brides could have a moment alone. As light streamed through the window warming the historic building, I heard laughter billowing in from nearby rooms. Soon, the space was anything but quiet. Our planned moment alone actually turned into several people watching a first look. With some direction, the room fell silent as the guests began to watch me work. It took pressure off of the couple, and following my lead, we still captured the intimate photos as planned.

I can't wait to see the art hanging larger than life in their home.
