Did you know James Gunn already gave us a terrifying take on Superman? Well, sort of:

Brightburn (2019) was produced by Gunn and written by his brother and cousin. It’s a chilling what-if story—what if Superman didn’t grow up to be a hero? What if he became a monster instead? It blends superhero origin mythos with straight-up horror, and it works SO well.

If that vibe grabs you, let me put you on to Irredeemable by Mark Waid. It’s about a Superman-like hero, the Plutonian, who loses it and becomes humanity’s worst nightmare. It starts dark, goes deeper, and ends up way out into some epic cosmic weirdness. Sharp superhero storytelling with unhinged characters is a vibe.
