🦝 FIELD CALL // THE RACCOON IS BOOKING FALL 2026

The field calendar has openings.

Slightly Feral Media is booking select Kansas City, Lawrence, and Topeka live music, event photography, venue documentation, performances, festivals, and other strange gatherings for October, November, and December 2026.

Several dates have already been claimed. The raccoon is looking for the rest.

📸 EVENT COVERAGE // SMALL SHOWS LEAVE EVIDENCE, TOO.

For selected events in the Lawrence, Kansas City, and Topeka areas, photography coverage is currently available in exchange for admission/ticket cost being covered.

Farther away? Gas or mileage may need to be included depending on distance.

You receive a professionally edited gallery of 25-30 photos (per band if there is more than one playing) with permission to download and use the photographs for personal, social, promotional, and commercial purposes with proper credit to Alethea Mehdipour / Slightly Feral Media.

Local bands. Opening bands. The young humans spending their free time rehearsing, making flyers, selling tickets, hauling amplifiers, and trying to convince twelve more people to come hear the thing they made matter. Drag. Burlesque. The gloomy old musicians who have played every room in town, watched half of them disappear, collected enough stories to fill several questionable memoirs, and still keep showing up to make space for whoever comes next. Fundraisers. These are not background characters. They are the culture. The raccoon would like evidence.

🏚️ VENUE FIELD STUDIES // THE BUILDINGS REMEMBER THINGS.

I'm also selecting a small number of Kansas City-area, Lawrence, and Topeka music venues for long-form documentary features.

This is not a venue review. And it isn't simply architectural photography. The raccoon wants to investigate. The stage everyone recognizes. The loading dock nobody photographs. The green room. The booth. The stickers. The scars. The strange architectural decision nobody has been able to explain since 1987. The humans who know which breaker absolutely should not be touched.

And especially: the stories I cannot find on Google. Who played here before anybody knew their name? Who has worked here forever? What disappeared? What survived? What does the crew know that the audience never sees? Why do humans keep coming back to this particular room?

Participating venues receive a professionally edited gallery for private, promotional, social, and commercial use with proper credit, along with a full documentary feature published by Slightly Feral Media.

Liberty Hall will be the first. The buildings that hold culture deserve archives, too.

🦝 PROMOTIONAL SPECTACLES // SOMETIMES NORMAL IS INSUFFICIENT.

If you've been watching what Slightly Feral Media has been creating with The Dead Bettys, you have already witnessed what happens when the raccoon is permitted to have... ideas.

A Promotional Spectacle is not generic content. It is something we build around you. Your band. Your event. Your humans. Your story. Your particular flavor of weird. With some Laverna the Rockin' Raccoon flare.

The objective is to create something that makes another human stop scrolling long enough to ask: "What the hell is this?" Photography, video, reels, storytelling, campaign concepts, suspicious props, unnecessary amounts of fog, we determine what the situation requires.

Promotional Spectacles require considerably more planning, production, and editing, so I will accept a limited number each month. These are paid projects, with pricing based on what we're actually creating. You don't need to bring me an elaborate concept.

You can bring me: "We have a show. We need humans to notice it." The raccoon can begin there.

🎃 IMPORTANT FIELD ANOMALY // HALLOWEEN IS OPEN.

Somehow, October 31 is currently available. A goth-adjacent raccoon who documents metal shows, drag, burlesque, strange humans, dark rooms, and culturally suspicious behavior has no Halloween assignment.

This appears to be a clerical error.

Please correct it.

WHY THE RACCOON KEEPS DOING THE THING

Slightly Feral Media isn't trying to build a collection of pretty concert photographs. We're documenting the people, places, rituals, infrastructure, and strange little ecosystems that make live culture possible. Documentary anthropology of live culture through the field notes of an unusually observant raccoon. Maybe a photograph helps a local artist find their next opportunity. Maybe a gallery helps a venue promote the next show. Maybe somebody keeps one photograph for the rest of their life.

And maybe fifty years from now, someone goes looking for evidence of what Kansas City live music culture looked like in 2026 and discovers that somebody bothered to preserve it. The artists were here. The venues were here. The weird little Thursday-night shows were here.

The raccoon collected evidence.

📩 WANT HER TO INVESTIGATE?

Please send me a direct message rather than only sending a Facebook event invitation.

SEND TO: Laverna the Rockin’ Raccoon, Alethea Mehdipour, or Slightly Feral Media.

Event invites are difficult for me to track, and an invitation doesn't tell me you're actually requesting Slightly Feral Media coverage.

DM me:

• Event / venue
• Date
• Location
• Event link, if available
• Event Coverage, Venue Field Study, or Promotional Spectacle

No formal pitch required.

Tell the raccoon what you're building.

Field notes in progress.
The culture is leaving evidence.
The raccoon intends to collect it.

🦝 FIELD NOTE // THE CALENDAR IS FILLING UP

The raccoon’s August and September migration patterns are becoming ambitious. New habitats continue to appear on the calendar, and the approved field research is beginning to look delightfully unreasonable.

The raccoon approves.

One of the raccoon’s favorite parts of this work is returning. A single observation is useful. Repeated observation is where patterns begin to emerge. A band on its first encounter reveals a performance. A band on its third or fourth encounter begins to reveal a personality. The raccoon gets to watch songs evolve. Confidence grow. Lineups change. New material appear. Inside jokes develop. Communities strengthen. The evidence becomes richer every time.

The raccoon also has a habit of wandering into entirely new habitats. New venues. New genres. New artists. New humans. Every unfamiliar room presents another opportunity to ask, “What kind of community lives here?”

Although the raccoon frequently finds herself documenting the wonderfully broad and beautifully chaotic ecosystem known as metal, field research has produced an unexpected conclusion- The raccoon has yet to encounter a live performance—of any genre—that wasn’t worth documenting. Every room has its own operating system. Every audience has its own rituals. Every artist leaves different evidence behind. Every venue teaches the raccoon something she didn’t know before she walked through the door.

The calendar may be filling quickly. The curiosity is filling even faster.

If your band, venue, festival, or event is looking for documentary photography, field notes, or someone willing to quietly disappear into the room and document the culture you’re building-

Send the raccoon an invitation. Or better yet - Send a message. The raccoon is always looking for the next habitat. The next strange little community. The next piece of evidence.

Slightly feral.
Entirely capable.

🦝 FIELD NOTE // THE FIRST COWPUNK

July has been unusually busy for the raccoon. So busy, in fact, that the raccoon and the female offspring have spent most of the month exchanging sightings in passing rather than sharing adventures. Tonight, that changed. The habitat was one of the raccoon's favorites: Sound Bite Sociall at Warehouse On Broadway in Kansas City.

Neither raccoon nor offspring had encountered cow-punk before. Field research suggested it might involve equal parts country, punk rock, and a complete disregard for taking oneself too seriously. Field observations confirmed the hypothesis.

Lawrence's own White Line Nightmares opened the evening by doing exactly what an opening band should do—injecting enough energy into the room that everyone immediately understood they had shown up to the right habitat. The raccoon will always have a soft spot for a commanding female artist, and White Line Nightmares certainly delivered.

Then came the headliner. The raccoon reasoned that someone who has remained the frontman of the same band for forty-six years—and managed to outlast every other original member—had probably accumulated a few performance tricks over the decades.

That assumption proved accurate. Although, the raccoon had not anticipated that one of those tricks would involve discovering an entirely new application for microphone feedback. Let's simply say the microphone briefly disappeared into an unexpected location before the amplifier became an enthusiastic participant in the experiment. The resulting feedback was educational. The raccoon had never documented that particular technique before.

Another important field observation: The footwear.

The stage hosted the finest collection of shoes the raccoon has documented since photographing The Dead Bettys.

Coincidence? The evidence remains inconclusive. Enjoy these first few photographs from tonight's expedition.

The field notes are still developing, and the raccoon suspects there is considerably more evidence to organize before this investigation is complete.

Field note in progress, more evidence soon.

The bands left evidence.
The raccoon collected it.

Slightly Feral.
Entirely Capable.
