Wrightstown hires interim superintendent
Wrightstown, WI - The Wrightstown Community School District (WCSD) Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. James Smasal as Interim Superintendent for the 2025–2026 school year.
This decision follows a rigorous and inclusive selection process, reflecting the Board’s commitment to openness and community engagement. Beginning with a pool of 10 highly qualified candidates, the field was narrowed to two finalists after careful review, interviews, and consultation.
Alongside the Board of Education were both administrative leaders and building-level educators. In addition to internal stakeholders, feedback from community members, including those active on social media platforms and contributors to local opinion pieces, was heard, considered, and valued throughout this process. The Board appreciates the diverse perspectives shared and recognizes the community’s deep investment in the success of the district.
Mr. Smasal brings to WCSD a strong background in district operations, a proven record of leadership, and a contagious enthusiasm for public education. Known for his passion for students, staff, and the community, Mr. Smasal is a vibrant leader who approaches his work with heart, humor, and energy. In fact, those who have worked with him in the past note it’s not uncommon to hear him singing through the school hallways - a testament to the positive spirit he brings to his role.
The Board is confident that Mr. Smasal will provide steady, student-centered leadership during this transitional year and serve as a bridge to the district’s next chapter. The Board plans to approve his appointment at the August 20, 2025, board meeting.
A comprehensive search for a permanent Superintendent will be launched in late 2025 or early 2026.
