For more than six decades, Kennewick High School’s Big Drum has been a point of pride and symbol of the band’s long tradition of excellence.

The thunder of booming drums will reverberate through the air during the Oct. 4 annual Cavalcade of Drums in Kennewick. But there will be none quite like the Big Drum which has marched to its own drumbeat dating back six decades and more at Kennewick High School.

Though the Benton Franklin Fair & Rodeo came and went in August, its impact hasn’t faded. For a week or two before the fair began, the community played a key role in setting up the five-day event.

The heart of the fair can be found in the animal barns and Agriculture Building where local growers – whether it be of veggies, flowers or animals – showcase their bounty.

Aging in Place Resource event is from 9-11 a.m.Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Richland Community Center, Riverview Room, 500 Amon Park Drive, Richland. The event is free and open to seniors, caregivers and those preparing for retirement.

CITY OF RICHLAND HOSTS “AGING IN PLACE” EVENT: RESOURCES AND CONNECTIONS FOR SENIORS, CAREGIVERS, AND THOSE PLANNING FOR RETIREMENT

Richland Fire & Emergency Services invites community members to attend an Aging in Place Resource Event on Wednesday, September 17, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Richland Community Center, Riverview Room, 500 Amon Park Drive. The event is free and open to seniors, caregivers, and individuals preparing for retirement.

Attendees will learn about services, tools, and community connections designed to support healthy, independent living for older adults. The event will feature:
• Information on local programs that help seniors stay safe, active, and engaged
• Tools and resources for maintaining independence at home
• Guidance and support for caregivers and family members
• Opportunities to connect with community organizations and providers

“Our goal is to help Richland residents understand the many resources available to support aging in place,” said Nylah Holt, Community Resources Navigator. “By bringing these connections together, we hope to empower seniors and families to feel more confident about planning for the future.”
