The Kenosha Education Association (KEA) believes that every child should have access to the resources they deserve to succeed in school. Sadly, too often our nation’s educators have to spend their money in an attempt to give students equal access to education.
We know that classroom needs have drastically changed over the past few years. In 2018, AdoptAclassroom surveyed over 4,400 teachers and found virtually every public school teacher said they had used their own money for their classrooms. A whopping 96% of teachers reported spending their own money on supplies at an astounding average of $740 each. That is why we are reaching out to the Kenosha community to ask for help with our “Supply Kenosha Kids for Success” supply drive.
Last year the bulk of our supplies came from our Kenosha community members “passing the hat” for our drive. It was a huge help, especially for our educators who teach in low-income schools where families can’t always contribute supplies. The items educators said they spent the most money out-of-pocket on are healthy snacks, incentives for students, earbuds/headphones, Kleenex, disinfectant wipes, and common school supplies.
We are requesting help with any of the following: cash or check donations to KEA for the purchase of classroom supplies, collection of school supplies for donation, gift cards, or incentive items such as stickers, small toys, or free food certificates for Kenosha students.
We are requesting donations be made by August 23, 2021. Cash and check donations can be mailed to the KEA Office (3030 39th Ave, Room 117, Kenosha 53144) or our members have created a wish list at https://bit.ly/3AH6hHo if you would like to buy items directly.
Thank you so much for your support.
