Statewide, Thursday (8/28) will be the peak of fire environment conditions supporting low initial attack wildfire activity within South Texas, Lower Gulf Coast, Central Texas, Eastern Hill Country, Cross Timbers, Rolling Plains, and Northeast Texas Predictive Services Areas (PSA). These PSAs still have intermittent dryness with surface fuels that are susceptible to ignition sources. Any fires that do occur should exhibit low resistance to control.
The fire environment Friday through the weekend will progressively change with forecast cooler maximum temperatures, increased surface moisture from the Gulf, and increased forecast precipitation chances limiting fire potential. Portions of South Texas and Lower Gulf Coast will be the exception with forecast limited precipitation chances and near normal maximum temperatures. The fire environment for these PSAs will continue to support low to limited initial attack wildfire potential. Any fires that do occur should exhibit low resistance to control.
Recent and forecast thunderstorms could support lightning ignitions in dry surface fuels with values of less than 25% per 30-day percent of normal maps. Outflow winds from thunderstorms can produce brief periods of elevated fire weather with changes in windspeed and direction.
