I've been a bit behind on announcing this but truthfully I've been trying to figure out any and every way I wanted to say what I want to say... Unfortunately nothing sounds or feels right and I don't think it will so I'm just going to go into it. The main reason behind this post is spread awareness and for every to just understand.
Recently my wife and I found out that our son is moderately autistic. To be honest it's not much of a shock for us. We already knew. During this process we faced many hardships and obstacles. Countless sleepless nights, picky eating, functioning in an OCD like pattern, the list goes on. The hardest obstacle we had to face however was being questioned as parents.
We had nurses blame his development on us rather than try to help him. We had to fight doctors to give him tubes so that he could hear and didn't have to suffer from ear infections on a monthly to bi monthly basis. We had to sit in silent and be judged as "helicopter parents", "extra", or whatever label was placed on us. At the end of it all we were right. We saw what others failed to see.
Have a child with Autism is enough of a struggle. There are struggles only we will see. The last thing we need is to be judged for yours or others ignorance. We don't need parenting advice. We don't need your opinions. We need your understanding. The same thing goes for our children.
Do not feel bad for my son. My son is the most amazing and kind hearted kid you will ever meet in your life. He's incredibly smart in his own way and a gaming guru. Overall my son doesn't need sympathy rather than time and patience. Let's include understanding in that as well lol.
Overall if you take anything away from this I want you all to do one thing if you don't understand Autism but know someone with a child on the spectrum. Talk to them, ask questions, gain a knowledge for it. Also give us a break. We doin our best lmao.
