For years now I’ve somehow wound up with bands dinner breaks lining up to when it’s time to setup guitar amps. I love this process as I send the band to enjoy a nice dinner break while I hang back and put together a great guitar rig for when they return. I find it saves time and the mental wear on the guitarist having to play a lot while we’re getting tones. When they return from dinner, they are well rested and then hearing the amp tones gets them excited to jump back in!

This rig myself and our assistant engineer setup comprises of a Vintage Orange OR120 Head through an Orange 2x12 Cab and with the use of our new ShotGun splitter we also tied in EVH Head through our Mesa 2x12 3/4 Open Back 2x12 Cab.

In the end, we used the Darth Vader Red channel!

One of the great parts about building a recording studio is that every piece of gear carries a story. Pictured here is a pair on Quad Eight Electronics MM-61 channels. These were purchased from rather famous producer whose name escapes me unfortunately. I do recall he worked with acts such as Tori Amos, Bjork & Madonna. I had them restored and modified by Ken Hirsch at . While in Ken’s possession he was able to determine that these modules came from the MoTown Studios in Los Angeles. Beyond that super cool factor these are one of the best sounding units in our rack here. 90% of vocals go through these here. And I can’t imagine who from the MoTown collection might have passed their music through these.

Most of our clients have invested seriously into their pedal boards. But still, there’s always the need for different toys and inspiration in the studio. We don’t have the most boutique pedals in our collection, but we definitely have a few weirdo’s that can surprise you. One of these days we’re going to plug them all in together and blow something up 💥

Geeeeeeeetars! The one instrument that makes ANY kid cooler in an instant!

Micro-Frets Calibra I: this is a super rare guitar (so I’ve been told) that my good friend sold me decades ago. It’s got a super cool brass nut with rollers that notches the G string into the fretboard to help with the traditional intonation issue with that particular string.

Gordon Smith: A beautiful hand crafted British guitar. My good friend is the only other person I know who has one, left handed of course. I got this guitar in 1998 from a guitar shop in Germany while on tour in Europe. By far one of my favorites as it sounds amazing and is so comfortable to play.

Guild BluesBird: I’m oddly a HUGE fan of Vintage solid body Guild electric guitars. This was Guilds take on the Les Paul. This one has a nice h***y mid range that is to die for!

We seriously love Vintage Drums in the studio. Here are two of our oldest snare drums. Leedy from 1940 and a Ludwig & Leedy from 1937! These both sound amazing recorded!

Shoutout back to 2017 when we did the Ulcer Island Album. This was a SUPER fun one! Layers of fun thrash guitar solos and vomitous pitch shifted vocals. And a Guinness record of audio samples used on an album 🫶🏻

We love tube amps! Especially the ones that give you vitamin C! Both of these are modded with master k***s so you can overdrive the tubes for that thick natural distortion. They even made a little baby which we use a LOT.
