Nakshathra Suresh doesn't soften this one. "It could mean a customer takes their own life because of something you didn't put a guardrail in for an AI chatbot, and that's something you're going to have to take accountability for."

In this clip, she talks about what's at stake when founders treat safety as a later problem instead of building it in from day one.

Nakshathra Suresh has talked to victim-survivors who stopped using technology altogether. Not the app where the harm happened. All of it.

In this clip, she explains why: after one bad experience, applying for benefits, shopping, talking to a loved one online all start to collapse into the same threat in someone's head. One unguarded design feature, and a person can lose their ability to function online at all.

Nakshathra Suresh runs an exercise with founders that most would rather skip. Write the apology first.

She has them draft the media statement they'd have to publish on their worst day, the one where a harm happened and the product has to come off the shelf, then work backwards with their team to manage every risk it names. The goal isn't to scare anyone, it's to make sure that statement never has to get written for real.

Nakshathra Suresh remembers the exact moment this became her work. Friends mentioning, casually, that someone had stalked them, found their number, texted them, like it was nothing.

"That's not a normal thing to say out loud," she says. In this clip, she talks about how casually we've come to accept that kind of harm, and what it took to turn that discomfort into a career studying how systems let it happen.

New episode of Empowered by AI is up!

Nadege Petrie spent over a decade in community mental health and private practice, then years testing the EHR and AI systems clinicians are handed. Same gap every time. So she built her own governance framework for AI in healthcare, and brought it to her engineering team from day one.

We talk about what it took to go from executive to founder, and why she believes no clinician will trust a system they didn't help lead.

Nakshathra Suresh has a line she uses with founders. "Most of my job is teaching humans how to be human."

She's a cybercriminologist, not an engineer, and in this clip she talks about what that means in practice. Safety by design isn't a legal checkbox to her, it's an empathy equation, a reminder that a customer is still a human being before they're a metric on a dashboard.

Fear got Nadege Petrie in the door. It just wasn't the reason she stayed stuck.

In this clip, Nadege talks about leaving a healthcare executive role, where she evaluated other people's systems, to become the founder building her own. No committee to lean on, just her judgment and years of clinical experience on the line. She talks openly about the self-doubt that came with it.

Nadege Petrie's question for every healthcare AI system: who's leading this, a clinician or an engineer? After years evaluating EHR and AI systems as a healthcare executive, she found the same gap everywhere. So she built her own governance framework and brought it to her engineering team on day one, not after launch.

Can a system really clone the compassion a clinician brings to a client? Nadege Petrie doesn't think so, and she's building the governance framework to keep humans in the loop of healthcare AI instead of writing them out of it.

This clip is from my conversation with Nadege for Empowered by AI, Season 7, Episode 8. Full episode: https://empowered-by-ai.captivate.fm/episode/the-gap-you-see-is-real-building-trauma-informed-ai-governance-nadege-petrie/

Nadege Petrie's engineers told her nothing like this existed yet. Her answer: awesome, let's do it then.

She spent over a decade in community mental health and private practice before testing the EHR and AI systems clinicians are handed, finding the same gap every time. No trauma-informed framework. No governance built with the clinician in the loop. So she built her own.
