On this day in 1985, “Crossover Dreams” was released in theaters. The film depicts a Salsa singer on his way to the top, then his career starts going downhill.

Crossover Dreams would mark the first on-screen film role of Ruben Blades. The film premiered in New York City and had positive reviews from the New York Times (Vincent Canby) as “a sagely funny comedy, both heartfelt and sophisticated, a movie” and famed film critic Roger Ebert “against this serious undertone, the movie hurls a lot of good music”.
