To Our Indie Professionals, Creatives & Entrepreneurs,
At Eight6five Magazine, we understand the journey of an independent professional is not an easy one. It takes vision, sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering faith to continue building something meaningful—especially when the road feels uncertain. Yet, despite every obstacle, you continue to create, inspire, lead, and push forward. For that, we celebrate you.
Eight6five Magazine was created to shine a light on indie professionals—the entrepreneurs, artists, authors, musicians, business owners, models, content creators, and visionaries who are making an impact in their industries and communities. We believe your stories deserve to be told, your work deserves recognition, and your voice deserves a platform.
As CEO, I want you to know that this magazine stands as more than just a publication—it is a community built on support, empowerment, and elevation. We are committed to showcasing excellence, highlighting hidden gems, and providing opportunities for independent professionals to gain visibility and grow.
To every dreamer building from the ground up, every creative refusing to give up, and every entrepreneur betting on themselves: keep going. Success does not happen overnight, but consistency, dedication, and belief in your purpose will always open doors.
Thank you for allowing Eight6five Magazine to be part of your journey. We look forward to continuing to spotlight your brilliance, celebrate your achievements, and inspire the next generation of independent professionals.
Continue to dream big, work hard, and never stop believing in your vision.
With gratitude and purpose,
Bridgette Sells

Before Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Before Cardi B and Offset. There was Ms. Melodie and KRS-One — hip hop’s first married power couple.

She met him in 1985 while he was living in a Bronx shelter. Together, they helped build Boogie Down Productions, shaping the foundation of conscious rap. Her verse on Self Destruction remains one of the most unforgettable performances by a woman during hip hop’s golden era.

But after the divorce, life changed. She raised two sons while the culture she helped influence slowly moved on without her name in the conversation.

On July 17, 2012, Ms. Melodie — born Ramona Scott — died at just 43 years old. There were no major tributes, no headlines, and no confirmed cause of death.

One of hip hop’s pioneering women passed away quietly, while the culture she helped shape rarely paused to honor her legacy.
