KPD detectives are attempting to locate a next of kin for 64-year-old Robert Ely.

Despite exhaustive efforts, detectives have not been able to find a next of kin to notify them of Ely's passing. Ely lived in the 1100 block of Armstrong Avenue.

Knoxville Police Department arrest suspected child ra**st ❗️

On Wednesday at around 7:30 p.m., KPD Community Engagement Response Team officers took 38-year-old Christopher Nelson into custody as he was leaving a residence on Bethel Avenue.

Nelson was recently indicted by a Knox County Grand Jury for two counts of aggravated r**e of a child and two counts of sexual battery after an investigation led by KPD Special Crimes Unit detectives determined that he had abused an eight-year-old child on at least two separate occasions.

Nelson was taken into custody without issue and is being held at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on a $350,000 bond.
