A 95.9 Rocks listener contacted us regarding a local petition, providing the following quote and link to the petition: The petition seems to be gaining traction-at 489 signatures as of tonight.

“I feel fortunate to have community support for this initiative. It evolved from a modest concept to a movement virtually overnight. As Wayne Gretzky aptly stated, ‘Skate to where the puck is going, not where it’s been.’ This philosophy is precisely what LaFollette needs – progress.” – “My children enjoy skating, but we lack a local venue.” – “A project of this nature would provide teenagers with a positive outlet, discouraging destructive behavior.” – “Having grown up here, it’s heartening to witness someone introducing novelty to LaFollette.” – “I hope my grandchildren will utilize it someday – our town requires more family-oriented activities.”- Troy Link JR

The Hudson family sent this fantastic photo of Smokey X along with a November 8 update. “Smokey X is doing well to be an almost 14-year-old boy! We are still in shock about his diagnosis, but we are extremely grateful to the UT Vet School for their amazing care of our precious Tennie! Minus age-related issues, his diet and mannerisms, etc., have remained unchanged, and for that, we are also very thankful!”

A school shooting in 2005 shattered a sense of innocence in Campbell County High School.

Fourteen-year-old Kenny Bartley entered Campbell County High School armed with a 0.22 caliber handgun. Investigators learned he intended to trade the gun for drugs. Principal Gary Seale received a tip that Bartley was armed.

In a confrontation in the office, Principal Seale asked Bartley about the weapon. The teenager reportedly responded with a defiant insult before pulling the trigger.

Today in 1973, Bruce Springsteen released his second studio album, The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle.

Recorded around the clock – “towards the end of the mixing process, I’d been up for three days without stimulants” – Springsteen’s second (and superior) album of ’73 was precision-tooled with material to make him indelible to audiences during his bread-and-butter support slots.

Many of these long-form songs were modelled on a classic soul r***e – always one more chorus, one more go around – while with the jangle-soul of Rosalita (Come Out Tonight), he had his first setlist perennial, and an early draft of Born To Run’s escapist tropes. Not that it stopped the label deeming the album “unreleasable”, and telling radio stations to strike it from their playlists.
