Michigan Conservation Officers were in the right place at the right time when they came upon a drowning woman in the fast moving Manistee River. She had been swimming with friends when she became overcome by the current, and was seen by CO Sam Koscinski and CO Scott MacNeill during a routine riverine patrol. As the author says, he is no longer in the military and any statute of limitations has come and gone. In peacetime, the military frowns on improvisation instead of SOP. But when you are stranded in a remote tribal area of the Philippines, necessity is what it is. And a brand new (at the time) Leatherman tool saved the day and got the Herc back home. Having already instituted and Orwellian policy of marking new knives with QR tracking codes in an effort to thwart knife attacks by Uyghur separatists, Chinese authorities are taking a low-tech approach as well. They are chaining knives to workstations in the butcher-shops in at least one market in the Xinjiang Province. I wonder if there is a province in Australia that roughly correlates with Florida, because this story has Florida Man™ written all over it. Except it isn't. When I was a kid, I couldn't wait to get my Smoky Mountain Knife Works catalogue in the mail. Its pages positively gleamed with all manner of bladed-goodness, from novelty kitsch to premium brands. In a scene which is all too common in Angela Merkel's Germany, an immigrant (who had attained German citizenship), attempted mass murder using both fire and a knife.
