🍂 Fall bear safety reminder 🐻

Autumn is here and black bears are more active than ever, foraging for acorns and nuts to prepare for winter. It's not uncommon to see multiple bears in one area during this time. Here's how to stay safe and respectful in bear country:

🔊 If you encounter a bear on a trail:
Never run or turn your back on it, back away slowly.
If it tries to approach you, make yourself big and make loud noises.
If it persists, throw sticks or rocks at the bear and act aggressively. Do not throw food or your backpack at it.

👀 If you see a bear in the distance:
If it notices you but continues feeding or walking, ensure you are at least 50 yards away and safely observe the bear.
If it changes behavior (stops feeding, watches you, changes direction), you’re too close—back away slowly.

🚗 If you see a bear near the road:
Do not stop in the roadway.
Only pull over if there’s a safe, paved pull-off.
Stay in your vehicle—never approach a bear.

🚫 Bear safety guidelines:
Stay at least 50 yards away from bears.
Lock your vehicle.
Never feed any wildlife.

Let’s keep both bears and people safe this fall. Respect wildlife and enjoy the beauty of the season responsibly! 🍁
