Speckles for days! That new wellie pullet egg in the middle is impressive and I love their temperament even more.

I’ve been MIA the last few weeks. Wedding season (my job) is in full swing and we’re just surviving the chaos over here. I have so many fun things to share but for now I am going to catch my breath. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

What does everyone do to protect their dogs from cheatgrass? I have seen the mesh hoods so they don’t inhale one but I am spending every evening picking them out from in-between their toes😅

We finally got one of our own goslings from Chandler & Anastasia. Out of the 17ish eggs that we set. Thinking she’s a girl based on coloring but I will do DNA samples soon! She’s got a cute little chocolate runner buddy to keep her company so she’s not lonely.

Momma is sitting in 6 eggs still and if I do my math correctly hopefully some babies in about a week🤞🏼

Hosting a wedding on Friday, replacing trees on Tuesday😅 Trust me it’ll look perfect by then. Fun fact we laid sod a week before my wedding here and it turned out amazing! Anyone else work better under pressure?!

And this my friends is why testing your birds for the blue egg gene is a very important step in responsible breeding. The circled egg is from a bird that was sold to me as a “legbar” She’s perfectly fine as a layer but definitely not for breeding.

As we all know the chicken world doesn’t lack for drama and I try my best to stay out of it but I can’t sit this one out. This comment below was in response to a good friend of mine on our local chicken page who was wanting some hatching eggs. She recently became NPIP and she couldn’t get a response from this small hatchery. I even messaged and commented on posts and was ignored. Obviously this small hatchery is screening Facebook friend lists. She has every right to refuse service to anyone and doesn’t owe anyone a message back but her response doesn’t sit right with me which is why I’m talking about it. Why couldn’t there be a discussion? For example “I see you are a new and upcoming breeder I’m honored that you’d like some hatching eggs can you tell me what your plans are with the breed?” EVEN IF she said “I love that you’d like to add some of my lines into your program but I am not wanting to have a breeder so close in proximity to me with the same lines” Would it be disappointing? Absolutely, but I respect the hell out of someone that can be upfront and honest. I do not consider myself a breeder. So I’m curious do you announce yourself as a breeder with every chicken/egg purchase? Also for context my friend recently got a flock from a breeder getting out of the business and is wanting to add some new genetics to start working towards her goals with it. Pretty much what all breeders do am I right?! Overall I’m just disgusted with the lack of decency. All it takes is a conversation. There is room for everyone to win

Anywho, who do you recommend for wheaten marans for my friend Little Timber Roost?!😆 Go give her a follow and show her page some love!
