200 AM EDT Mon Jul 14 2025

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of America:

Northeastern Gulf:
A trough of low pressure situated offshore the Atlantic coast of northern Florida is generating disorganized showers and thunderstorms across portions of Florida, the northwestern Bahamas, and adjacent Atlantic waters.

This system is expected to move westward across Florida during the next day or so and into the northeastern Gulf by late Tuesday.

Environmental conditions appear favorable enough to support gradual development of this system as it moves westward to west-northwestward across the northeastern and north-central portions of the Gulf during the middle to latter part of this week.

Regardless of development, heavy rainfall could produce localized flash flooding over portions of Florida and the north-central Gulf coast through the middle to latter portion of this week.

* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...low...30 percent.

With the 21st overall pick in the MLB Draft, the Astros select high school SS Xavier Neyens of Mt. Vernon HS in Washington.

MLB Pipeline’s No. 25 prospect and the 10th-best high school position player, Neyens stands at a towering 6-foot-4 as an 18-year-old.

The young third baseman features some of the best raw power of any hitter in this Draft, especially among high school players.

MLB Pipeline gives Neyens a 65 grade on the 20-80 scouting scale, one of the top power grades in this year’s Draft class.

Neyens on being drafted: "I knew the Astros liked me, but come Draft day you never know what's going to happen…I was so happy."

“I'm a dirtbag, I'm a baseball player. I'm going to do whatever it takes to win."

They want to keep him at SS, but they think they could play 3B if needed.

Neyens grew up an hour north of Seattle as a Mariners fan and had this to say about the Astros: "I know they whip the Mariners every year in the AL West. ... I know they always run the West."

"I'll end up signing with Houston," Neyens said.

In the third round of the MLB Draft (No. 95 overall), the Astros take LSU OF Ethan Frey.

Frey batted .331 (60-for-181) this year as LSU's primary DH with 15 doubles, 13 homers, 50 RBIs and 43 runs. He's a 6-foot-6 right-handed hitter.

At the height of vaudeville, as many as 50,000 performers traveled in troupes to perform in thousands of American cities, including Brenham.

This lasted from the end of the Civil War into the 1930s, when in-person variety shows gave way to those broadcast on radios and, later, television.

And thanks to community support, the Simon Theatre is still thriving
