✨ 5 Beginner Jewelry-Making Mistakes You’ll Want to Avoid! 👀

We’ve all made a few of these when we first started making jewelry… 🙈✨

If you’re learning jewelry making or wire wrapping, these 5 little mistakes can make your work so much harder:

1️⃣ Using the wrong wire gauge — the wire may be too thick, too thin, or simply not right for your design.

2️⃣ Overworking the wire — bending and reshaping the same spot too many times can weaken it.

3️⃣ Leaving sharp wire ends — always trim, tuck, or smooth your ends so your finished jewelry is comfortable to wear.

4️⃣ Using the wrong pliers — each tool has a purpose, and the right pliers can make a HUGE difference.

5️⃣ Not planning your design — laying out your stones, beads, and components first can save you time (and frustration!). 🤍

And honestly, making mistakes is part of learning. Every piece teaches you something new. ✨

Which one have you made before? 👀 Tell me in the comments!

And if you’d rather wear the finished jewelry than make it yourself… 🤍✨

A little bit of ocean, a little bit of gold, and a whole lot of handmade love. 🤍

I created this piece with natural pearls, a delicate gold-filled chain, and soft leather details. Every pearl has its own color, shape, and character—making each piece truly one of a kind. ✨

Those little natural details are what make handmade jewelry special.

Would you wear this layered look? 🤍

Making your own jump rings? ✨ The wire gauge you choose matters more than you think!

For dainty jewelry, 24–22 gauge works beautifully for smaller jump rings.
For everyday necklaces, bracelets, and charms, 22–20 gauge is a great choice.
For larger or heavier pieces, 20–18 gauge gives you more strength.

📏 Jump ring size guide:
• 3mm–4mm → delicate jewelry & small charms
• 5mm → a great everyday size
• 6mm → larger links & chunky pieces
• 8mm+ → statement or heavier designs

✨ My go-to for many jewelry projects is 22 gauge with a 4–5mm jump ring, but the best size depends on the weight and style of your piece.

✨Ever wondered why some jewelry wire feels super soft while other wire feels much harder to bend? ✨

It all comes down to wire hardness (temper).

🤍 Dead Soft — very flexible and easy to shape. Perfect for wire wrapping, weaving, coils, and wrapping gemstones.

✨ Half Hard — a little firmer and holds its shape better. Great when you need a balance of strength and flexibility.

💎 Full Hard — very firm and strong. Best for pieces that need to hold their shape, like structural components and some ring or bangle designs.

And here’s a little tip: you can work-harden dead-soft wire as you work with it, making it firmer over time.

If you’re new to wire wrapping, knowing the hardness can make such a BIG difference in your finished piece. 🤍

✨ The little tools that make handmade jewelry SO much easier!

Have you ever tried making a bunch of loops by hand and thought… there has to be an easier way? 😅

The One Step Looper is one of those tools that makes jewelry making faster, easier, and more consistent—especially when you’re making lots of earrings, charms, or wire-wrapped pieces. 💎

It’s definitely one of my favorite jewelry-making tools!
