Spotlight: 🌟 Kevin Flaherty! 🌟 Kevin is the host of Open Water, a post-punk/garage/indie-rock/shoegaze show, that airs on Thursdays from 5 - 6 pm PST. He is from Los Angeles and has been with KX for almost 5 years.
🌏 Where are you from: Los Angeles
🎸A Favorite Album: “Urban Hymns” by The Verve
🎙Why KX: Because independent radio is a rare & exotic animal (and equally wild)
🌴 Fun Fact: I failed ‘Marriage & Family’ as a college elective; now have a wife & 2 daughters. Stay in school anyway.
🌺 Favorite KX Memory: Showing up at the station, shortly after I was hired, to find the music playing and Tyler asleep on the couch in the lobby. And that was before he had a baby.
Tune in tonight at 5 to listen to Open Water! 🌊🤘
Full Album Friday featuring Yukon Blonde! Jeff Innes of the Canadian indie rock band speaks with Tyler about their latest album, “Vindicator,” sharing the inspiration behind each song & other fun anecdotes. Tune in today from 9-10 am & 4-5 pm PST. Thank you, Yukon Blonde!

Spotlight: 🌟Ian Ridsdale! 🌟DJ Ian Ridsdale is the host of Positive Vibrations on Mondays from 7-8 PM, and describes it as an “exploration into the world of neo-psychedelia, psych music from the early 1980s until now.” He also “highlights bands and artists that pioneered the psychedelic sound after its peak in the '60s, mixing in sounds of the paisley underground, dream pop, '90s shoegazing, and all psych-inspired alternative and indie music since then.” He is from San Clemente and has been at KX for over three months.
🌴A Favorite Album: Person Pitch by Panda Bear.
🎙Why KX: I grew up in South Orange County and have supported local outlets of art and music since I was in high school. I discovered so much music from big radio stations like KROQ and 91X when I was younger, and when KX came around when I was in high school I was stoked to see a local radio station playing alt and indie music. My band almost even played live on a bluegrass-themed show sometime in 2013. After a great experience as a DJ and staff member for KCPR at Cal Poly SLO, I knew I wanted to continue DJing beyond college. I'm incredibly grateful that I'm able to continue working in radio locally at KX FM and it's always a highlight of my week to broadcast my show.
🌺Fun Fact: I lived in a small town in Ukraine and briefly joined a Ukrainian rock band called Post Scriptum. They played a genre of rock I could only describe as Elvis Costello mixed with The Steve Miller Band, but all the lyrics were in Ukrainian, so I could only understand like two or three words per song.
🌞Favorite KX Memory: DJing my show is always my favorite part of the week. I'm always excited to create playlists and share music with the local community and any friends or family that tune in.
This week, Tyler spoke with Sam Roberts of the Sam Roberts Band about his 4th album, "All of Us." The Canadian artist shares about his songwriting process and the inspiration behind each song. Tune in today at 4 PM PST or click the link below to hear the full interview and album.

Spotlight: 🌟Jeff Taylor! 🌟Jeff is the host of ‘Sunday Morning Jazz’ which airs Sundays from 8am - 9am. He plays vintage jazz and big band from the 1920’s to 1940’s. He is from San Clemente and has been at KX FM for 5 months!
🎸Favorite album: That’s a difficult one to answer being that I am a connoisseur of many genres, but coming from a rock and roll background, I’d have to say “The Beatles Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” for they were so far ahead of the times and is most relevant in the present as most of their music is.
📻Why KX: KX has a very unique structure of ideas, Air Talents, vision, and atmosphere. A feeling of “Family” unlike other radio stations.
🎙Fun Fact: KX may be a smaller than usual station to the eye, yet the punch they deliver is not only local, but on a global scale.
🌴Favorite KX Memory: My first show August 27th 2020. Sweaty palms, butterflies, anticipating the first break, and a hot microphone whereas I proudly stated, “Broadcasting live from Laguna Beach California, you are tuned in to KXFM 104.7”. I will never forget that moment. I’m living the dream, I love radio, It’s my passion, and undoubtedly, it’s in my blood. Thank you for allowing me to share my passion to all those who are tuned in!
Tune in Sunday mornings from 8-9 to hear ‘Sunday Morning Jazz!’

December Artist of the Month, Jordana, takes up step by step on how to make delicious avocado toast! Simple & tasty, follow the steps below. Check out the link for the the playlist Jordana created to listen to while making this toast! 🥑
Recipe: Classic Avocado Toast
Cook time 30 mins.
U Will Need:
- 4 pieces of bread
- 1 Lemon
- half an onion
- 5 avocados
- garlic powder
- lemon pepper seasoning
- sesame seeds
First, prepare the toast by putting butter on one side of each piece and putting them on the pan on Medium heat.
While those are on the heat, prep your fruits and veggies on a cutting board. Chop up the onion and parsley and cut your lemon into slices.
In a separate bowl, peel and crush your avocados into chunky guacamole texture, then you can add your chopped onions (or if it is used as just a topping that is fine too!!).
Season your avocados to taste however you enjoy it with your garlic powder, salt and lemon pepper.
Check on that bread!! Make sure it’s not burnt! Nah jk flip it over when it’s golden browned and then turn off that heat and let it sit and think about what it’s done...
Stir up that avocado, get that bread to a plate, and start scooping the avocado and spreading it all around that toast. Leave the buttered side to the bottom.
Top it with your parsley, sesame seeds, add some more onion if you’re feeling frisky, season to taste, garnish your plate with those lemon slices and wallah!!
You can use the lemon slices too btw it’s not just for decoration. So squeeze those bad boys on and enjoy a great brunch bursting with flavor. Get some water too. You will need to drink some! :) - Jordana
