I don’t pretend to have all the answers but we have to figure out how to do better for our elderly. By the way he ended the call by telling me that he understands I’d like more care but “these companies have to make money.” I spent today looking at alternatives. This will be mom’s third move and it’s not uncommon at all as good places can have staffing changes or lack oversight and quickly become bad places. It’s the thing nobody really prepares you for. Hang in there today and I will too! ’s

I don’t know the man whose voice can be heard on this clip of the view of San Angel Inn from the river ride in Mexico, but THANK YOU, Sir. Also the San Angel Inn continues to be a 5/5 for me every single trip. Put me there with the fish tacos and a blood orange margarita and I’m a happy girl! And bonus it’s like you’re outside but you’re in the AC!

I blame content creators for this illusion, but Walt Disney World is HUGE and if you’re relying on Disney transportation? It takes a LONG time to get from place to place. Add heat and crowds to the mixture? You can be looking at up to 90 minutes to move WITHIN Walt Disney World. And if you have an important dining reservation or dinner show? Unless you can walk there or are willing to pay for Uber or Lyft, allow two hours. And to watch my whole video from this trip check the comments!

4 years ago we fostered Lenny and Sadie and proceeded to foster fail big time with these amazing pyr/husky mixes. As an 8 year old bonded pair, their adoption applications were exactly zero. Their vet calls them the Benjamin Button dogs because every visit they seem to be getting younger. Adopting senior dogs isn’t for everyone and you have to accept your time with them won’t be as long as you’d like - but also the moments you get are like little miracles and it’s one of the most rewarding things we’ve ever done. Thankful for our rescues!

So many new followers here! I'm honored! You should know that YouTube is where you can find most of my content and there I talk about all the things that bring me joy: travel, my home, my dogs, being on the right side of history in a pro-LGBTQ+ anti-racism sort of way, and a smattering of Disney and cruising! People have commented that I need to find a niche and stick to it and I have happily ignored that because I'm 56 and I do what I want. The MOST IMPORTANT advice I received when we were choosing a care home for mom was simply this:

Pick the place you can visit every day.

Even if it’s not the BEST of the best as long as it’s good? Location location location. Because real quality care needs accountability even in the best places and you (or someone you trust) MUST be able to advocate for your loved one. I have seen some pretty horrific things on this journey and being there is the only way to stand in the gap.

There are usually great discounts at Walt Disney World in the summer and there frankly absolutely should be. Even with later hours in the evenings, you’re going to have half (or even less than half) of the time available to be out in parks and doing all the things. I feel like the videos can make it look lovely in the summer but the reality is that 2pm on a summer afternoon nobody should be outside doing anything. The week I was there had heat advisories for every day and a feel like of well over 100.

Can you still have a great trip? Absolutely and I just did! But you have to go in with the right attitude and understand that the middle of the day has to be for air conditioning not standing in the sun. 🌞

I spent my 56th birthday surrounded by family and friends and was absolutely showered with love. I’m not sure what the next year will bring but I know I am feeling very blessed for this one life I’ve been given and the people I’ve been given to live it with.
