Yesterday I got to spend the afternoon with a very special Pokémon trainer. Ariyon is a brave 9 year old boy who loves Pokémon and lives in my home state of Virginia. Last year he was diagnosed with a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DMG) which is a rare and extremely aggressive brain tumor. Ariyons parents reached out to the foundation to help grant Ariyon’s wish of meeting the legendary . And with the power of social media and the Pokémon community we were able to make it happen. I traveled to Ariyon’s home and got on a video call with Pokerev, Cool Trainer Ryan, and Pokevault, and Ariyon got to spend some time with his favorite Pokémon YouTubers. After the call he showed me his binder of cards that he loves to look up values for. I got to see the “Pokémon room” where he has an amazing Eevee collection, and we opened up some booster packs together. We even pulled the SIR Team Rocket’s Moltres from destined rivals! Our genuine shock made for a great photo. My thoughts and well wishes are with Ariyon and his family during such a difficult time, and I hope these memories are able to provide them with some smiles and laughter. Getting to spend the day with Ariyon will be an experience I’ll be eternally grateful to have in my life.
