Clerk of Superior Court encourages Veterans to register their DD-214

Memorial Day is an official United States Federal holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans.

The Lanier County Clerk of Superior Court Deborah Clark is encouraging all veterans of all military branches of service to make sure their DD-214 is recorded at the courthouse. Your DD-214 should have been recorded at the time of the service member’s discharge from the military.

Clark stated, “I have discovered that many veterans do not know about this service and did not have their DD-214 recorded. Although veterans may have recorded their DD-214 in their home town or in a county of another state far away from Lanier County, you are encouraged to record them here as well. If your DD-214 has been recorded somewhere else and you are now living in Lanier County , simply bring your DD-214 to the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office located at 56 W. Main Street, Suite 5 Lakeland, GA, and we will record it in our records free of charge . If there comes a time you need a certified copy, then we will be able to provide one for you and it will not be necessary for you to send to another county or state to obtain your record. This is a free service to all our veterans that my office is delighted to offer. You paid it forward for all of us. Thank you.”

DD-214 is issued by the Department of Defense when a person is discharged by the military.

Please see the message below from our partner regarding suspension of Census door-to-door operations due to Coronavirus (Covid-19). We need all hands on deck to get the word out to have everyone self respond either online at www.my2020census.gov or via telephone at 1-844-330-2020. See details below. I wanted to share urgent information that I just received with all of you. Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, all field operations have been suspended. So there should not be anyone from the US Census Bureau going door to door at this time. If they are, or if you see anything suspicious, please report this to your local authorities. In addition to this, our Update Leave Operations have also been suspended. Update Leave is basically the team that goes door to door to hand deliver the 2020 Census paper form to those who do not have mailboxes. This is critical for rural communities. Many have not received the Census form due to the interruption. This is where your work will be critical. We need all hands on deck to get the word out to have everyone self respond either online at www.my2020census.gov or via telephone at 1-844-330-2020. This is very important, particularly for our hard to count communities and communities with poor internet connectivity who were relying on the paper forms. If you have any questions or need more clarity, don't hesitate to reach out. Our communities are counting on us!
I am truly amazed at how our state school board protects our children. For example the state of Kansas canceled school for the year and allowed seniors to graduate early. Now let's look at georgia our great state has decided to put our kids back in school with a cdc mandate for six feet separation imagine how local elections can be effected if. We have a coronavirus out break at lanier county schools and children come down sick or possibly passes away parents are the voting body so your choice today could effect your future tomorrow the cdc put guidelines into effect for a reason not for local and state school boards to just do what they want. Think of the future of our country and our state kids are not going to learn much in the next five to six week that could not be taken up next year and seniors will go back to school and be working on graduation activities to get ready for may 23 rd graduation day protect your kids
