Sometimes the best systems come from the kids. Today my oldest dug a tray out of the cupboard and said lets try this instead of a pile of Tupperware. It was something I bought and put away forgetting it existed so of course put it to use. I let him stay up a bit and we worked through it together. The second half of the video got messed up, but this first part is our late night, figuring out what actually works for our house. Honestly, this setup might save my sanity and the container avalanche that rests within the fridge.

My ask finally came in. Hubby asked what I wanted after I hit 10k with everything else going on. I knew what I wanted but couldn’t get the words together to even find it. I showed him the purse I liked and explained how hard it is leaving the house when my everyday things don’t fit in my baby backpack. On top of having certain safety aspects. He laid everything out on the floor, measured, and went back and forth on his phone for a while. I’ve never really had a bag that worked size wise so I wasn’t too hopeful, but he took the lead and kept the color a surprise. I hadn’t even snooped on our shared Amazon because life’s been busy. It has showed up and it’s gorgeous, and it landed the day before our mega trip which makes the timing even better. Just really grateful all around.

Last of our PDSES grant came in and it went straight to something that actually matters to him. A nightlight for my oldest’s living room box, his “apartment.” We gave him a chair for Yule and he still picks the box, so we leaned into it. Kid didn’t wait on anyone either, grabbed a screwdriver and batteries from dad’s stash while I was on a call and handled it.

Independence win, plus a comfort win, and he is obsessed with it already.

Exactly what these supports are for, meeting them where they are and building from there.

My morning routine is quick, I’m usually done in about 30 minutes with the kids. My own part takes under 10 minutes when I skip makeup, add about 15 to 20 extra minutes when I do. Little quiet moments while the kids stay busy, messy hair, moving gently on autopilot, just easing everyone into the day. I keep it simple and try to make it feel light.

A week ago, the whispers of an ice storm started. The first sign is always the people who live out in the woods, the ones who never bother anyone, coming into town to stock up. When they do, you should too. The next sign is two people paying close attention to the weather, Jim Cantore, who goes where the storm is expected to be the worst, and Ted Cruz, who leaves when things are about to get bad. Both have moved as of this morning. Not panic time, just prep time over the next few days. I called a friend who works at Walmart and she said they are already running low on bread, milk, and eggs. No idea why those are the holy trinity of storm prep, especially when we might lose power, but here we are. At least this is easier to manage than the COVID toilet paper madness. Stay safe out there. It looks like it’s only supposed to be one rough weekend, but stores in my area are already closing ahead of Saturday.

I swear I did a heroic produce haul yesterday but actually it was Wednesday. Farmers market, grocery store, the whole “I have my life together” performance or maybe new year new me is kicking in; who knows what's going on but I don't. Even the middle has been seen with a bowl of fruit which is completely new. Today I opened the fridge and it looks like raccoons with gym memberships live here. Not mad, actually impressed, but jeez, a calendar invite titled “We will inhale all fruit by Saturday morning” would have been respectful. So, today I went out for more and let's see how long this lasts.

Dinner tonight is chicken bites, thought I grabbed strips but they all eat the same. Serving with beans and rice or leftover spaghetti, just using what we have. I am also pressure canning taco meat so it does not go bad and so I have easy lunches ready. Trying hard not to freeze anything with the move coming up, this is straight up food management mode. Now to go sit and cuddle the kids before the food fully cooks.

Actually laid out the meat for dinner, so I am already calling that a win. Today’s plan is simple but still somehow a lot, finish the schedule, print my one syllabus since the other class still has not opened, get back into themed meal planning, and bake a few things so the next few days do not feel so chaotic. But for now, it is nuggets and fries for lunch and KFC bowls for leftovers because that is what life looks like over here.

Dinner time while my husband and I chat it up. I cook, he watches, waits, and keeps me company like this is his assigned post. Same routine, different night, and honestly I don’t hate it; it's our chance to catch up on the day together.

Food gets made, conversations happen, everyone eats. That’s the rhythm around here.

I fixed it. This video glitched and cut off earlier, so here’s the full rundown. These are new dairy free finds at Walmart plus a few updated staples we keep buying because they actually work for our family. If you’re dairy free for allergies or by choice, this haul is worth checking out.
