HEY Laredo Area Weather Page.
For those that continue to ask “why cold front” and not “cool front”, here you go…

From Meteorologist Alan Holt!
Great explanation… thank you sir!

This comes up every Fall. Why are we calling it a cold front when it's not going to be cold? I get it and I understand the confusion.

In meteorology, we define fronts for the way an air mass changes with the passage of a front at a given location. In the case of a cold front, that direction is from warm to cold. This could mean high temperatures prior to a cold front are 110 then the next day down to 95; that's a cold front. It could also go from 45 one afternoon to below freezing the next; also a cold front.

In this week's case, we'll go from the middle 90s Wednesday to the lower 90s Thursday. Will it be cold? Not at all. But that's not what matters. What matters is the direction of change. We don't name fronts for how they make us feel.

Yes, other weather people sometimes use the term 'cool front' to describe weak cold fronts. My thought here is that if they answered 'cool front' on a meteorology exam, it would be incorrect.

Hope this helps!
