30 years ago On this day in 1994, the movie Forrest Gump opens in U.S. theaters. A huge box-office success, the film starred Tom Hanks in the title role of Forrest, a good-hearted man with a low I.Q. who winds up at the center of key cultural and historical events of the second half of the 20th century and life became more than just a box of chocolates...thinking 90's!

SAD NEWS: We are deeply saddened to share the news that JAWS star Susan Backlinie aka Chrissie Watkins passed away earlier today, aged 77.

JAWS co-star Jeffrey Kramer remembered Susan... "Susan was a kind, soul and loving soul and will be sorely missed by the Jaws community. She has a special place in our hearts!"

RIP Susan Buckner (January 28, 1952 – May 2, 2024)

Prior to her acting career, she was crowned Miss Washington in 1971 and in September went on to become a top ten finalist in the Miss America 1972 pageant. She tied for first in the swimsuit preliminary. Buckner is probably best remembered for her role as high school cheerleader Patty Simcox in the 1978 summer blockbuster Grease, starring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta.
In the early 1970s, she appeared on episodes of “The Dean Martin Show,” “Police Woman” and “Switch.” Buckner later put her musical talents on display while appearing as a dancer and synchronized swimmer on “The Brady Bunch Variety Hour” in 1976. Throughout the late 1970s and into the 1980s, Buckner appeared in a number of TV series including “Starsky and Hutch,” “The Love Boat,” and “The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries,” and co-starred in the ABC series “When the Whistle Blows” alongside Dolph Sweet. Her final credit, according to her IMDb page, is playing a news reporter in the 1989 film “Police Academy 6: City Under Seige.” In her later years, according to a biography provided by Buckner’s publicist, she stepped away from Hollywood to focus on being a mom to her two children. Buckner died on May 2, 2024, age 72. No cause of death has been given.
