Help Katherine Fight Heart Failure
Every day in our house feels like a medical battlefield. Iāve been living with congestive heart failure, epilepsy, and bipolar disorder, so we already had our hands full. My medications are a major expense, and managing my own health has always been a challenge. But in January, everything changed for our family.
My wife, Katherine, started having shortness of breath and sweating. At first, we thought it was menopause, but things quickly took a turn. She ended up in the hospital, sitting in a hallway next to inmates, one of whom was in for a stabbing. A nurse had to run an EKG right there in the hallway. After a whirlwind of tests and room changes, the doctors transferred her straight to the ICU. Katherine is only 51, but everyone else on the heart floor was over 65. That alone rattled her. Then the doctors told us she had congestive heart failure and might not make it through the night. They told us to get our affairs in order. A normal heart pumps at 60% or more, but Katherineās was functioning at just 20%. My stomach dropped. Weāve only been together five years, married for two, and we are just getting started. I refuse to lose her.
This year has already broken us. Our daughter just beat cancer, and now Katherine is having daily seizures from the stress. The bills donāt stop coming. Katherine is a mental health advocate and is passionate about empowering women. She has always supported others, and now she needs support herself. We are asking for your help to give Katherine a fighting chance and to help our family get through this crisis. Any contribution or share means the world to us. Thank you for being part of our journey.
