JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
Under the direction and guidance of the Wildland Division Chief, the Seasonal Fuels Crewmembers primary responsibility is to reduce
the risk of wildfires by managing and removing flammable vegetation in the Moab Valley. This includes clearing brush and other vegetation utilizing chainsaws, chippers, power trimmers, mowers, and other equipment. They may also participate in prescribed burning. Fuels work is physically demanding outside work that is performed in all weather conditions. The Seasonal Fuels Crewmember will be responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining all tools and equipment listed above. The employee will be responsible for driving a one ton truck pulling a chipper or other trailer as needed. The crewmember is expected to ensure their own personal safety and the safety of other crew members by following safety guidelines and wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). The crew member is expected to maintain a level of fitness that will enable them to perform the physically demanding work required in this position. The fuels crewmember will assist other members of the fire department with public outreach events. The employee may be needed to assist fire department staff during emergencies. The employee will also help with other station work as needed. The position is non-benefited and full time, seasonal from September 15 through April 2. The seasonal fuels crewmember is expected to participate in required training and career development opportunities.
