šŸØ New York-New York Las Vegas stepped up its room game! šŸŽ°šŸ—½

I stayed in the older rooms at NYNY a few years back, and these renovated rooms are a HUGE improvement.

The new design feels modern without losing that fun New York/Vegas personality. I really like the white brick wall, bright yellow accents, bold red sofa, NYC-inspired artwork, and all the warm wood throughout the room.

And thereā€™s actually a decent amount of space! A king bed, sofa, table and chair by the window, big TV, and plenty of room to move around without everything feeling crammed together.

It still feels like New York-New York just a much nicer version of it. šŸ˜Ž

Iā€™d definitely stay in one of these renovated rooms again.

šŸØ A Piece of Old Las Vegas: The Historic Hotel Apache

Walking through Binionā€™s on Fremont Street, I came across this display for the Hotel Apache, and itā€™s a reminder of just how much history is hiding in plain sight in Downtown Las Vegas.

The Hotel Apache opened in 1932, when Las Vegas was still a small desert town and workers were pouring into the area for construction of the Hoover Dam. At the time, the Apache was considered one of Nevadaā€™s most modern and luxurious hotels essentially a ā€œmegaresortā€ by 1932 standards.

And it had some serious bragging rights.

āš” It had Las Vegasā€™ first electrically operated hotel elevator.
ā„ļø It was the first Las Vegas hotel to air-condition its lobby, complete with an air curtain at the entrance.
šŸŽ° It also featured what is credited as Las Vegasā€™ first fully carpeted casino.

Eventually, the property became part of Benny Binionā€™s legendary Horseshoe, tying the Apache to another huge chapter in Las Vegas gambling history. Over the decades, the hotel reportedly hosted famous guests including Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart and Lucille Ball.

Thereā€™s even another side to its reputation: today the Hotel Apache is promoted as a historic haunted hotel, with stories of unexplained sightings and encounters adding a little Old Vegas mystery to its past. šŸ‘»

What I love about places like this is that they remind you Las Vegas didnā€™t begin with the giant resorts on the Strip. Long before the Bellagio fountains and massive casino towers, places like the Hotel Apache were helping invent what Las Vegas would eventually become.

And this old Guest Elevator sign is connected to one of those pioneering pieces of Vegas history.

Opened in 1932 and still telling stories more than 90 years later.

The Bellagio has always been my favorite hotel in Las Vegas, and I think this picture captures a big part of why.

Thereā€™s just something about its classical elegance. In a city built around bigger, brighter, newer, and louder, the Bellagio has a timeless quality to it. It feels grand without trying too hard beautiful, sophisticated, and unmistakably Vegas.

Iā€™ve always told people that one of the biggest mistakes you can make in Las Vegas is spending your whole trip inside your hotel. No matter where youā€™re staying, get out and explore. Walk the Strip. See the other resorts. Wander through the casinos. Catch the shows, the lights, the restaurants, and all the wonderfully over-the-top things that make Vegas Vegas.

Then I stayed at the Bellagio.

And suddenly, I understood the temptation to never leave your hotel.

Between the fountains, the conservatory, the restaurants, the casino, and simply walking around taking in the atmosphere, I kept finding reasons to stay just a little longer. For once in Vegas, the hotel wasnā€™t merely where I slept between adventures.

The hotel felt like part of the adventure itself.

Thatā€™s probably the best compliment I can give the Bellagio: I always tell people to get out of their hotel and experience Las Vegas.

The Bellagio is the one hotel that made me want to break my own rule.
