In today’s world, it’s more important than ever that we come together, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as human beings who share common values of compassion, respect, and kindness. I want to take a moment to address an issue that transcends politics and speaks directly to our shared humanity.
Recently, I came across an article about Gus Waltz, a special needs individual who was unfairly targeted and bullied. As someone who has faced challenges with my own disabilities, I know firsthand the strength it takes to keep moving forward in the face of adversity. But what truly breaks my heart is seeing anyone, especially those with special needs, being made fun of or treated with anything less than the dignity they deserve.
I am proud to count friends from all walks of life, with varying political beliefs. While I don’t identify with either party, I strongly believe that when we go too far to the extremes on any side, we lose sight of the values that unite us. Extremism, in any form, can lead to disturbing actions and rhetoric that undermine our shared humanity.
I hope that we can all find it within ourselves to rise above our differences, to embrace love and acceptance, and to extend that love to everyone—especially those who may be different from us in ability, background, or belief. We are all stronger when we stand together, when we lift each other up, and when we refuse to tolerate bullying or hatred in any form.
Let us be better. Let us be kinder. And let us never forget that at the end of the day, what matters most is how we treat one another.
