Autumn

Yesterday was the first official day of autumn! What does fall mean to you? I painted this digitally as an expression of what autumn makes me feel.
* Perfect weather with a slight evening chill
* Cozy sweaters ( or Jumpers if you’re British)
* Back to school
* Raking leaves
* Migrating birds
* More days spent outside
* Your first pumpkin spice latte
To me, these conjure nostalgic feelings of days gone by. To illustrate this, I used my exaggerated retro style making to Norman Rockwell, and indeed used one of his illustrations as inspiration. Posted here are also progress shots so you can get a feel for the process, as well as the Rockwell inspiration.

It’s a pirate’s life for me, arrgh! 🏴‍☠️. Sometimes the magical journey happens while snuggled in bed reading your favorite book, and sometimes it happens while imagining and illustrating your favorite scene from that book. Today’s daily doodle is in my current nostalgia/ retro theme. I’m remembering back to my childhood days of sitting at the kitchen table reading comic books, and why not draw one of the most coveted comics of all time “The Amazing Spider-Man number 1”. First oublished in 1963…still a bit before my time. This painted doodle lets me show some love to my obsession with light, shadows and folds. Let’s see if the internet sleuths can find what issue the Superman cover is!

The BIGGEST PROBLEM artists struggle with (ok “one of the biggest”) is sitting down to BEGIN drawing, and trusting that the sketch you’re working on is A) going somewhere B) not wasted time C) anatomically close to real and D) the final will be ALOT better than the sketch. Trusting the process takes guts and is something every artist is constantly working on getting better at. Here a doodle becomes more. Let me know what you think. I drew this 1950’s / retro style young man running to the park with his football 🏈 because is nearly upon us.

For today’s doodle, it’s the crackerbarrel logo redesign! If you haven’t heard, folks are up in arms over the Cracker Barrel logo being redesigned and updated, so I thought I’d throw my hat in the ring and get some done. I use this style when I’m going for a look and feel. Thoughts?
