Internet radio is the fastest-growing medium of today. Millions of new people tune into Internet radio stations worldwide each day, enjoying a much more varied and diverse choice of programming than those available on existing radio stations - many such stations are restricted by the vision of their own people, who are stuck in the radio world of the past. Recent Radio Research carried out by Radio Network in August 2008 shows that 40% of Internet radio listeners tune in at work and also at home. Its young, diverse audience is growing as the medium becomes more mobile via devices like Smartphone’s and in-car Wi-Fi. Radio is now an interactive medium, engaging millions of consumers online and via mobile devices every week. eMarketer estimates nearly 80 million internet users will tune in to internet radio stations weekly in 2012. By 2015, that number will nearly double to 158 million, thanks to streaming through Smartphone’s and Wi-Fi-connected in-dashboard players. Almost 40% of people also say that 5 or more of their friends also listen to radio via the Internet each week. Almost 45% of people surveyed had an income of over $55,000 per year. Advertising Association (EIAA), the pan-European trade organization for sellers of interactive media, reveals a rise in the amount of time people spend online with the Internet now accounting for 20% of Europeans' media consumption. Research sponsored by Saatchi & Saatchi shows that radio achieves the greatest recall of all media, with the strongest memory retention of not only brand and company but also specific selling points. In regards to loyal listeners, over the past few years so called "Reality TV" has quite literally lost a generation of viewers. I remember vividly people saying that the advent of television would spell the end for radio. How wrong that has proved to be! People will always listen to stories, and when those stories are read by names which are still as loved as they are familiar, then you are once again presenting the public with a comfort zone of entertainment; something which television no longer caters for. I will also personally be looking for audience feedback as to what type of programming they would like to see included in future schedules, whatever the category. Quality Broadcasting
