The following question was asked about baptism and forgiveness/remission of sins in a bible study group.

Do gentiles require baptism to receive the forgiveness and remission of inherent sins? Some will say nay. What is the purpose of baptism?

Hopefully my response provides clarity:

Hello everyone, may I add to the conversation.

Romans 6:4 says "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."

Baptism is the believer’s declaration that the old life has died and the new life in Christ has begun.

The blood of Christ is what provides forgiveness and remission of sins. His sacrifice cleanses us.
The water of baptism represents burial, rebirth, and entrance into the new life.

When Jesus’ side was pierced, blood and water flowed - the symbols of cleansing and new birth. A new man/woman rises from the water, just as Christ rose from the grave.

The Spirit is the One who animates that new life.

So, do Gentiles need baptism to receive forgiveness and remission of sins? No — forgiveness comes through Christ’s blood.
But yes — everyone should be baptized, because baptism is the God‑ordained way we identify with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection and fulfill the requirement of being “born again.”
