Mt Fuji dad did what countless men do in the wilderness and in public spaces- abandon their wives and kids for their ego. He would have left that 7 year old longer had the police not made him come down and get him. Also it was rainjtb and foggy and 6500 ft in a mountain. I can’t believe that kid didn’t die from hypothermia or something else.
Now , I am friends with plenty of amazing and responsible guides and fathers but I’ve also seen too many people almost die, get hurt, or be unnecessarily terrified and even traumatized bc of the selfishness of male guides in the wilderness and reckless men including dads. Especially dads actually! This idea that kids automatically makes men less reckless and more responsible is bull 💩. Many of them go on doing whatever they want as if they’re single and childfree and I want women to be aware of this. Stop trusting them bc they say they know what they’re taking about. Don’t trust the confidence of any man until he has proven it’s based on skills, experience and humility and NOT pride and ego and hubris. Entitlement and know-it-all-ism sure are powerful drugs aren’t they ? Gets too many people killed. Women and kids don’t often consent to this bc if they knew how dangerous these situations were and could say no, they absolutely would . Never trust a man’s confidence over your intuition. The Mt Fuji dad is just one example of many. It’s not about him anyway but a deeper issue- male (and white) supremacy culture .
