It’s time to Pack it up!… we’re heading to 1980! 🎶🕰️

On this day, June 14, 1980, Curtis Blow’s groundbreaking hit “The Breaks (Part 1)” was making history. The song eventually climbed to #4 on the R&B charts and became the first rap record certified as a million seller by the RIAA.

Before becoming one of hip-hop’s first mainstream stars, Curtis Blow studied voice at New York City’s High School of Music & Art and Communications and began rapping as a DJ in Harlem nightclubs in 1976.

Here he is performing “The Breaks” on Soul Train in 1980.

This wasn’t just a hit record. It was one of the moments that helped open the door for hip-hop as we know it today.

Do you remember hearing “The Breaks” for the first time?

Come on now, fam… we can’t keep cruising around in this Time Machine without stopping to pay our respects to the man himself, Chuck Berry. 🎸⚡

On this very day, June 10th, 1972, The London Chuck Berry Sessions was climbing the charts on its way to becoming the most successful album of Chuck Berry’s career.

Part studio session and part live recording from England, the album captured the energy, charisma, and showmanship that made Chuck Berry a true original.

Before there was a blueprint for rock stars, there was Chuck Berry.

Sending flowers to a pioneer whose guitar riffs, duck walks, and storytelling helped shape the sound of generations. 🌹🎸

Alright fam… before we head anywhere else, we have to stop in 1967. 👑✨

Some songs become hits…

Some songs become history.

On this very day, June 3rd, 1967, “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin’s legendary anthem “Respect” was sitting at the top of the charts, beginning a run that would change music history forever.

Originally recorded by Otis Redding, Aretha took the song, made it her own, and transformed it into a timeless symbol of strength, soul, and empowerment.

This wasn’t just a hit record…

This was a movement.

Sending flowers to Aretha Franklin, the undisputed Queen of Soul, for giving the world a song we’ll never stop singing. 🌹
