As approach my 34th birthday and I exit my latest long-term relationship I am reminded that I will never fully make a woman happy, and she will never fully make me happy in return. Why you may ask? First I do not mean s*xually, my point is that I will never make her happy giving her that romance that she has dreamed of all her life, and because of this the relationship simply won’t work. Why? It is my opinion that the love all women between the ages of 18-35 are chasing isn’t real, and the men that todays men are competing with just don’t exist outside of movies, music and entertainment.
To start Harry Connick Jr, Travis Barker, and Gary Allen are destroying my life. Let’s be honest if any three of these guys and I were competing for a woman in real life they would surely win. They are attractive, famous, they all have nice bank accounts; However if we are being realistic I am not competing with these guys what so ever. In fact, at no moment in my life will I go head to head against any of them. The fact is the women I have dated are not in love with these guys; they are of course in love with who they think these guys are. So when they say “I love Harry Connick Jr’, she isn’t really in love with him, she is in love with the fake character Leo he plays from Will and Grace, or badass Travis Barker is in his music videos, or the lyrics behind Gary Allen’s song Every Storm which was mostly written by a woman who actually writes songs for the s**tty show Nashville. Woman actually believe (or want to believe) these guys are who they are on the screen and it’s fu***ng up our lives and creating the false sense of what a normal guy is. Now we could also talk about guy’s infatuation with p**n and how that ruins relationships, but I am writing the article not you.
In reality, fake, bu****it, Hollywood love is very dangerous. It has us chasing an unrealistic world that simply does not exist, so when we don’t argue like the cute couple on friends, or we don’t have the romance and passion of a 50 shades of grey novel it makes us unhappy, miserable, and chasing what doesn’t exist!!! So I find myself dating girls who want me to be like the lead singer from Hoobastank crooning the song The Reason, when that as***le is out banging every chick, in whatever city he is in tonight has too offer!!! NEWS FLASH!!! IT’S A FU***NG SONG!!! It’s not real!!!
I will be honest, I have been in love 3 times in my life and each of those relationships were comparable to Jessie Spano and A.C. Slater, Chris Brown and Rhianna, or any other dysfunctional relationship you can think of and those were the “BEST RELATIONSHIPS” We would literally watch TV and movies where the couple who was arguing we would laugh and say “that’s us!” knowing full well if she ever disappeared I would be suspect #1 and like Ben Affleck in the movie Gone Girl I would stay. Now let me be clear, everyone of these girls were loving, sweet, trustworthy, but flawed based on the media brainwashing of their youth and this princess fu***ng culture that promises every girl a happy ending. What they don’t show you is what happens after the credits role and society is left to assume Zack and Kelly, Johnny and Baby all lived happily ever after… Isn’t movie/TV love grand? If I am being 100% honest it’s not the girls fault, I mean the fact is we can’t even look and other couples and compare ourselves to them anymore because in reality even those couples are trying desperately to be just like the fake couples we all watch on TV and in movies. So even the normal ones we see are just as fake, hiding the same issues that dysfunctional relationships have, chasing a false reality of what love is.
So here we are claiming movies are influencing teen s*x, violent video games are corrupting our youth, and that gangsta rap makes people more violent… I care about none of these because I know what is really hurting us. Its fu***ng Edward and Bella, Rose and Jack, Pam and FU***NG JIM… They are the ones destroying our happiness. Because normal is bickering and fighting, normal is changing and going through adjustment periods with someone, understanding that the person you love now isn’t the person they are going to be. Normal is making sacrifices for someone, and putting their needs before your own. Normal is farting, chewing with your mouth open, loving their imperfections, and appreciating everyday they annoy the s**t out of you, but that’s not what todays media would have you believe. If this sounds sad or depressing trust me writing this is therapeutic and I stand before you remaining eternally optimistic even if I don’t seem like it. Sure I want to find someone, fall in love, and live happily ever after like a Michael Buble’ song or find my soul mate like in the fu***ng Notebook but it isn’t real. At some point our 90 minutes are up and every relationship finds itself wanting more, telling ourselves what we have is dysfunctional, looking for what is new and exciting and what we think is normal and sadly it just doesn’t exist…
