After over four years, I have decided to close Groove permanently. I have been trying to sell the business since April, met with a few interested buyers, but no one has purchased the business. It is an unfortunate situation but there will be bigger and better things. I want to take the time to appreciate and thank all the artists, students, parents, my family, and friends who have helped support Groove over the years. Especially my parents and my wife who have been there for me every step of the way. With that support, I have been able to keep the business going and maintain a fraction of commercial success and happiness. Unfortunately, the positives have not outweighed the negatives.
I have worked very hard the past four years to create a space to learn, record, mix, and master music. When I was 12 years old, I decided that I loved recording and one day would open a studio of my own. I saw myself sitting at an SSL 4k E console somewhere in California, with a rock band in the live room, a few great engineers in the control room (including myself), and a fat paycheck. It was my dream. I put in the time and work to learn and get myself there during high school, college, got a degree in Music Business, and opened up a place to call my own. In some ways my dream did come true. However, it has truly been a struggle to keep Groove afloat.
Teaching students and working with local and touring artists has been a lot of fun in so many ways. I have so much passion for recording and mixing and guitar pedals. I get so excited to talk about circuitry, compression, and audio in general. It pains me to have to close our doors, but I believe that there is good reason. I have a few more students finishing up their packages this month, a couple more projects to wrap up, and an album of my own to finalize.
With all this said, we will be leaving the premises on/before July 31st. If you are interested in buying gear, instruments, studio furniture, sound treatment/proofing, speakers, etc… we have a lot of it. Vintage and new. I could really use the help to sell everything that I can. All pieces are priced out accordingly and ready for a new home.

In our third online lesson, Shawn discusses the 2 octave, 6 string major scale. This scale shape is moveable. This means that you can start on any fret of the 6th string, follow the left hand shape, and still result in a 2 octave major scale. Pretty cool huh? (Free PDF chart below!)
Starting in the key of C (no sharps, no flats) then transposing the scale to G major (1 sharp, F#). Don't forget to practice different rhythms (1/4, 1/8/, and 1/16 notes) as well as alternate picking, tremolo picking, and slurs. Learn the scale before making things too difficult on yourself!
