Well... This is weird. I must admit a few months ago I thought we would be back at it and enjoying the fruits of our 25th year in business... and we are! Now we are having an unexpected and forced vacation with our families, friends, pets and homes. I have made countless "Plans" and plotted so many courses but this one is not my doing and it surely is special. I've talked to my mom and dad more than I would have about... gardening, "treasure hunting", landscaping equipment repair, pet care, pet food, and so many other things... Ive sat with my wife and had casual non rushed conversation without needing to build a quote, generate an invoice, check my email or my phone... Ive walked my dogs with my wife nearly every day. Ive seen my kids allot more and had many cigars with Alex, I've played more guitar... I've learned about "air layering" trees and other plants (look it up)... We have prayed more, reached out to friends that we haven't talked to in a while.... I've had phone calls from colleagues, vendors and other business owners asking if we were all right.... This has been such a wonderful reset. I am humbled by this "virus". There are so many good people around us and it makes me proud and thankful to be alive. Enjoy this gift of time we have... The grind has stopped for so many and its... OK. We will ALL be OK. Do your part to help someone and don't forget what we are being shown... LOVE WINS :) We will be here ready to rock when the time comes... and don't be surprised if I become a hugger... There will be HUGS when this is OVER!!!!

Stewart Sound’s Chad Stewart is on hand for any contracted event.

It may not seem big-time compared to the high-profile regions (New York City, L.A. and such) that are locally contracted for top-name tours and installs, but Western North Carolina has long been a popular area for the arts and music. In addition to the vibey music scene of Asheville, area festivals and the more high-brow concert productions, there is plenty of work for Stewart Sound (Leicester, N.C. — just northwest of Asheville; www.stewartsound.net) and its sister company, Stewart Stageworks Inc.

“I unknowingly started my audio journey as a musician,” says company founder Chad Stewart. “To this day, I still say I am a guitar player that happens to make my living being an audio guy or my other title in the theater world — sound designer. There are those times when the mix is just what I want and things are powerful, beautiful, and moving life stands still for me and I feel connected with the music. I take my mixes personally, and after 11 years in this industry, I feel very blessed to be doing something that I truly love.

“The bulk of our work comes from festivals and touring,” he says, pointing out the Peter Mayer Group and Christian pop/rockers Sonicflood as acts who regularly receive the company’s production support. Stewart is also the sound designer for the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, N.C., a high-end, 1,800-seat shed set in the foothills of the Western North Carolina mountains.

“I think we do something like 72 shows in eight weeks,” continues Stewart, who has been with Brevard for five years and just signed a five-year deal with the venue. “We typically load in three operas and two Broadway-style musicals, as well as many orchestral performances. This season, we are including Del McCoury, the Five Browns and Burt Bacharach.”

Anyone who has negotiated the tight, winding curves of Western North Carolina’s mountain highways and roads, as well as the unpredictable stormy micro-climates that can occasionally happen there, can understand that getting to a gig isn’t always an easy undertaking. “The mountains of North Carolina do represent some challenges,” says Stewart. “We have replaced a few transmissions due to the steep grades and mountainous terrain, and it rains at a moment’s notice. Needless to say, we own a small mountain of tarps.” Keeping inventory of this “essential” gear is Jimmy Stewart, who handles transportation and logistics. Additional company crew includes David Tate (production manager/audio engineer), Chris Mitchell (production manager/systems tech), Patrick Dashiell (shop manager/lighting designer/systems tech) and James Watt (engineer/lighting designer/system tech).

In addition to theater and festival work, Stewart Sound is also called to handle SR for touring and corporate work. Packed up for such events is a slew of top-end gear, including rider-friendly consoles from Midas, Yamaha, Soundcraft and Allen & Heath; a full mic closet; and an assortment of backline amenities.

But in particular, Stewart emphasizes a recent acquisition: In 2005, Stewart purchased a d&b audiotechnik line array speaker system and has been thrilled with the results, calling it the best purchasing decision he has made to date. “I thought the whole line array revolution was getting overused, but I have found with the d&b rig I can do everything, and it performs so much better than the conventional trap boxes I have owned in the past,” enthuses Stewart. “The array calculator, Q-Calc, is dead-on and allows me to see how the system will behave in a given space, as well as make crucial aiming decisions. It is very conducive to the corporate environment and will just as easily get down and dirty for powerful rock ‘n’ roll — type gigs. The Q1 line array box is less than 50 pounds, and the d&b B2 is the most musical sub I have ever heard, as well as the most effective. I plan on doubling my d&b inventory by this time next year.”

Stewart also recently purchased a Stageline SL100 stage system, an all-aluminum mobile unit that offers a fully hydraulic setup of stage, sound, lights, banners and sets, providing the company the ability to offer a turnkey concert package — all in-house. “We can fly 12 d&b Q1s from the Stageline and stack B2s and Q subs and handle several thousand people outside,” says Stewart. “I felt like I was paying too much for stage rentals and I was not happy with the service or the stages I was renting. The Stageline adds a good production value to the events. It looks great and is solid as a rock. It is perfect for flying the d&b rig, as well. Overall, [a] good business move for me.”

Want a better food for your furry family? Check out Waggin Meals!

I started my business, Waggin Meals, after our 14 year old best friend Jack ( Dachshund) was diagnosed with liver disease. Our Veterinarian said we needed to start feeding him a prescription diet plan or make his meals. Unfortunately, my friend Jack only lasted one night before we had to say good-bye. Our souls were crushed. After many tears and a trip to the farmers market, I sought out to create a simple, yet wholesome alternative to store bought dogfood and treats for my other two precious dogs. I began to research endlessly what is “harmful” and what is “beneficial” and “essential” for our dogs. In this process, I made the tragic discovery after looking on the back on the dog food we had, (that was highly recommended), that the “harmful” ingredients are inside that bag we have been feeding our dog for years along with over 35% fillers and preservatives. Why would we feed our fur babies this food?

I started making Human-Grade meals and created recipes with the wholesome ingredients that our dogs need to be healthy and thrive. No added fillers, no sodium, sugar or preservatives that are simply dangerous for our animals. My dogs devoured the food and the skin allergies for our rescue started clearing up.

I began giving the food out to our friends plus family, and delivering the meals. It’s simple, humans love their animals and want the best for them. Therefore, Waggin Meals was not only good for their dogs, but I am able to customize the meal specifically for their pet and hand deliver it from my kitchen to their home.

To think that this amazing journey started from something so sad. We’ve found a niche and a way to ensure our dogs are healthy and have the energy to keep waggin their sweet tails. Plus, its yummy.

In honor of our friend, best buddy and pal, Jack.

Music fans of the Carolinas, here’s the official announcement we have been promising you! Feel free to share it far and wide!

Stewart Sound has officially doubled our L’Acoustics K2 inventory, in part, to handle the Salvage Station’s summer outdoor concert series. We are honored and thrilled to provide our services to this Asheville landmark venue, and look forward to a fun summer by the French Broad.

We didn’t stop there either.

We have now added an L’Acoustics KARA system to the inventory to handle smaller format shows with the same incredible sound of the industry’s top speaker manufacturer.

Plus the addition of Midas Pro2 consoles, Yamaha CL5’s, and more Avid Profile consoles, we can handle multiple large format events on the same day.

Our top-level engineers who are certified in the deployment and technical aspects of these L’Acoustics systems ensure the highest quality sound for both concert goers and musicians alike. We strive to employ the people with the industry knowledge to take our shows to their highest level of the live music experience, and provide our clientele with the security and comfort they deserve.

On the family front, we are over the moon about our annual return to the Pisgah Brewing Outdoor Stage for another fantastic summer in Black Mountain. We are thrilled to be installing a new LED scenic package designed to enhance their natural stage. What’s more beautiful than music in nature?

We will also be returning to Mountain Song, Burning Can, White Squirrel, Songsmith, and many, many more.

We have turnkey packages for clients of all sizes including staging, lighting, personnel, and PA systems proper for 50 friends, 500 folks, 5000 fans, and all the way up to 25,000 music freaks.

2019 is looking like our biggest year yet at Stewart Sound HQ. We feel fortunate to share our mission with music lovers of the Carolinas, and look forward to seeing everyone at an upcoming show!

We are so proud and honored to be touring with our friends and family for the 20th year of Peter Mayers.. Stars and Promises....
This is a former Stewart Sound Amek mixer. I rescued it from some college guys up in Virginia 3 years ago. It is a recording and mix console in my studio now, which is a fitting final destination for an old analog mixer, with an old analog recording engineer. I thought you would enjoy seeing it again. Your the best, and you are appreciated.
There is no way we could have pulled off Deep Water Soul Fest without you and your team. Thank you Chad Stewart.
Hi Stewart, thank you for the invite, please return the like on my page Orange Audio, and take a look at my website www.orangeaudio.co.uk for professional sound and lighting products and services, cheers
