On Offense with Kris Goldsmith On Offense with Kris Goldsmith is a veteran-led podcast about confronting fascism and organizing for democracy.

Each week, we break down urgent threats and share how everyday Americans can push back.

A refugee used a shower curtain as a walking stick because he couldn't afford a real one, and his first interaction with police was getting tased. Then DHS left him to die in the cold. This isn’t just negligence—it’s criminal.

What happened to our promise of refuge and safety? The Trump administration’s policies turn the American dream into a dystopian nightmare for refugees—detaining those we should be protecting. How have we strayed so far from our values?

Donald Trump has already started selling **Trump 2028** hats. He's telling us exactly what he's planning — and we either take him seriously now, or we learn the hard way.

The moment I realized our society was insulating the military from the reality of war snapped me into action. It’s not just about serving in uniform; it’s about holding our country accountable to those who’ve sacrificed.

Where are the veterans when the Constitution is under attack?

We expect Trump and his allies to challenge election results that threaten their hold on power. That is why veterans are organizing now—before the crisis begins.

On Wednesday, November 11, veterans and allies from across the country will gather in Washington, D.C., for the Veterans Day Democracy March: a peaceful, lawful national action in support of constitutional government, lawful election results, and the rule of law.

In Episode 25 of On Offense, I sit down with Ken Harbaugh—a former Navy pilot, veteran advocate, filmmaker, president of VALOR Media Network, and producer of Against All Enemies.

Ken and I discuss the experiences that transformed his understanding of service: his daughter’s medical crisis, his work building veteran-led organizations, his reporting from Ukraine, the rapidly changing reality of drone warfare, and the dangerous gap between what America’s military is preparing for and what the next war may actually look like.

We also bring the conversation home to the threats facing American democracy—and what real patriotism demands from those who once swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution.

That oath did not expire when we took off the uniform.

The Veterans Day Democracy March is organized around three points of unity:

The voters decide. The results stand.

No president is above the Constitution.

America must keep faith with those who serve.

This is not a campaign to elect or defeat a candidate or political party. It is a peaceful, lawful effort to defend constitutional government, lawful election results, and the rule of law.

The march is being organized through the Unite for Veterans Coalition. Veterans Fighting Fascism, VALOR Media Network, and other coalition partners are mobilizing veterans, creators, advocates, artists, and allies from across the country.

This will be the final episode of On Offense for at least the next several weeks. I am stepping away from recording and publishing through August to focus on writing my book.

I do not have an exact date for the show’s return. Subscribe and turn on notifications so you will know when the next episode is released.

The podcast may be taking a pause.

The work is not.

Trump's foreign policy isn’t strategy — it’s just chaos with a flag wrapped around it. What he calls "strength" is really just a reckless power trip that makes America less safe.

Imagine a Supreme Court judge picking up a rifle to defend his country at night. In Ukraine, that's not imagination—it's reality. Can you see our justices doing the same?

Lindsey Graham’s death has me thinking about the choices that define a political legacy.

As someone who spent years lobbying Congress on behalf of veterans, I watched Lindsey Graham champion American military intervention while repeatedly resisting reforms that would have better protected the troops sent to fight those wars.

That raises a larger question:

What does political courage actually look like?

My guest this week, Reed Galen, made a very different choice.

A longtime Republican strategist who worked for George W. Bush, John McCain, and other Republican leaders, Reed eventually concluded that staying inside the Republican Party meant compromising principles he wasn’t willing to abandon. Today, through Civic Forum, he’s trying to build a different kind of civic movement—one grounded in honest conversation, local engagement, and democratic participation.

In this episode, we discuss:
• What political courage actually requires
• Why Reed walked away from Republican politics
• Whether America’s institutions can still be reformed
• Why local organizing matters more than ever
• How ordinary people can go on offense in defense of democracy

Trump's accidental good deeds won't get Europe off the hook. Denmark's always been there for us, but now they're realizing they gotta stand on their own against Russia.

For years, we’ve been told that young white men are drifting to the political right. But what if we’re asking the wrong questions?

When I met fitness coach and content creator Colin Davis, I couldn’t stop thinking about my best friend, who died when we were 19. It made me wonder: if he’d lived, who would he have become?

Colin works in a world—fitness and gym culture—that has increasingly become associated with right-wing politics. But instead of reinforcing that culture, he’s building something different: a vision of strength, masculinity, and community rooted in empathy, responsibility, and democratic participation.

In this conversation, we discuss:

• How gym culture became intertwined with right-wing politics

• Why so many young men are searching for belonging

• The healthcare, economic, and social forces shaping young men’s lives

• What progressives often misunderstand about young white men

• Why local organizing matters more than national politics

• How strength and compassion can coexist

This isn’t a conversation about young men.

It’s a conversation with one.
