THE CEO DIARIES: The weight behind the title
Entry 02: THE WEAK LINK OR THE WAY FORWARD?

The kid was late. Again.
Not by much; seven, maybe ten minutes. But this job doesn’t have room for “not by much.” Not when I’m already covering for two techs who left for higher pay. Not when tariffs just jacked my compressor cost another 15%.
Not when I’m being quoted six weeks for a part that should take three days.
But, I didn’t say anything.
Not yet.

I watched him fumble the manifold, crack a joke, check his phone.
Not disrespectful; just distracted. He’s green. Young. Still learning how to show up. The old me; the guy who built this company from one truck and a borrowed ladder, would’ve cut him loose.

NO TIME. NO PATIENCE. NO SLACK.

But now I’ve got 18 people looking to me for a paycheck.
Customers waiting on installs that are behind schedule because of refrigerant shortages and backordered units. Tariffs. A2L refrigerant transition. Supply chain hell. There’s no bench. No backups.

So I ask myself:
Is He The Weak Link Or The Future If I Shape Him?
Do I Pour Into Him, Knowing How Much Time It’ll Take?
Do I Replace Him, Knowing How Hard It Is To Find Someone Who’ll Even Show Up?

This is the pressure nobody sees.
It’s not just about the job. It’s about the weight of building something that lasts, when the tools you need keep slipping through your fingers.

So for now…
We’ll Train Him.
