I just heard the news that Jordan Patterson passed away in a motorcycle accident, and this one really hit me.
I met Jordan through the Kentucky Card Show. We weren’t lifelong friends, and I’m not going to pretend we were closer than we were, but over the short time I knew him, we were becoming friends. We had some real conversations about life, addiction, money, business, being a father, and just trying to keep your head right while carrying everything that comes with it.
What stood out to me about Jordan was that he genuinely cared.
There were times after the show when most people were packing up and heading home, and Jordan would hang around, talk to me, ask me if I was doing alright, ask if I needed help, and make sure I was good mentally. As a father and a man trying to juggle a million things, that meant more to me than he probably ever realized.
You don’t meet many people like that.
He was a huge supporter of what we were building with the Kentucky Card Show, always great to do business with, always in a good mood, and always somebody I was happy to see walk through the door.
One of the last things I remember about him was him leaving the show early because he needed to get back home to his kids. That tells you a lot about the kind of man he was and what mattered to him.
Life is fu***ng wild. You meet somebody, you start getting to know them, you have conversations that stick with you, and then suddenly they’re gone.
I didn’t know every chapter of Jordan’s life, but I know the part of him that I got to see. He was passionate. He cared about people. He cared deeply about his kids. He supported others. And he was a good man to me.
Rest in peace, bro. It was truly a pleasure getting to know you.
The card community is going to miss you, and I know I’m going to miss seeing you at the shows.
My thoughts are with his children, his family, his friends, and everyone who loved him.
