Send ‘Witness Slip’ Now to Back Bill Curbing Ethylene Oxide Emissions This week may be the last chance to curb emissions of ethylene oxide (EtO) in Lake County. EtO is a cancer-causing, odorless gas which is used to sterilize materials and produce some consumer products. It is being emitted by two facilities in Lake County. As per the EPA, exposure to EtO increases the risk of lymphoma, leukemia and breast cancer. Children are particularly vulnerable. The Illinois House has passed a bill, House Bill 3888, to curb these emissions. As the bill moves to the Illinois Senate this week, however, there is a lot of pressure on state senators to defeat it. You can voice support for the House bill by filling out an online Witness Slip. The deadline for this witness slip is the morning of November 13. PLEASE SELECT “PROPONENT!” Link to the witness slip below. http://my.ilga.gov/WitnessSlip/Create/121973?committeeHearingId=17489&LegislationId=121973&LegislationDocumentId=154973&fbclid=IwAR2LcRhYYUgLujmd7MZ1HxaGIzdg524FFDix7jsLgJIJkXM_ZmJwwmVe1IE You can also contact area legislators and ask them to support HB3888. Senator Dan McConchie: (224) 662-4544 / [email protected]; Assistant Majority Leader Terry Link: (847) 623-3006 / [email protected]; Senator Julie Morrison: (847) 945-5200 / [email protected].
