Wedding photography taught me how to brand.
And branding has made me a better wedding photographer.
Because this industry is SATURATED.
A bride posts “looking for a photographer” in a Facebook group and 14 seconds later there are 292,827 comments.
Everybody has a camera.
Everybody offers “sessions.”
Everybody has presets.
And apparently one trip through Best Buy now comes with a photography business.
So I learned pretty quickly that being good at taking pictures was never going to be enough.
I had to learn how to make people recognize my work.
How to make them understand what made it different.
How to make them feel something before they ever filled out an inquiry form.
That is branding.
And now that I build brands outside of weddings, I bring all of that back with me when I photograph one.
I notice what makes this bride different.
The things she obsessed over.
The people who matter.
The energy in the room.
The details that actually say something about her.
What deserves to become an iconic photograph and what absolutely does not need to be photographed 47 different ways.
I’m not trying to make every wedding look like Sacred Proof.
I’m trying to make every wedding look unmistakably like the woman who lived it.
Wedding photography taught me branding.
Branding taught me to see my brides even better.
Funny how the thing I learned just to survive in a saturated industry ended up making me better at the art itself.
