The series follows Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), the Devil, who leaves his infernal realm behind to settle in Los Angeles. There, he runs a vibrant nightclub and becomes a civilian consultant for the LAPD. The show's diverse cast includes Lauren German as Detective Chloe Decker, Kevin Alejandro as Detective Daniel 'Dan' Espinoza, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen, and Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin. Initially filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, production shifted to Los Angeles starting with the third season. While the first season received mixed reviews, subsequent seasons garnered improved ratings, with the fourth season achieving notable critical acclaim and high ratings.

Tom Ellis received widespread acclaim for his standout performance in 'Lucifer,' which became a highlight of the series. Despite a strong debut, the show struggled with consistently low ratings during its run on Fox, leading to its cancellation on May 11, 2018, after three seasons. However, the series found new life when Netflix picked it up, releasing a highly anticipated fourth season of ten episodes on May 8, 2019. Following its success, Netflix renewed the show for a fifth season, comprising 16 episodes, which premiered on June 6, 2019.
