West Coast Classics sending prayers out to the family and friends of Chris Jasper of the iconic Isley Brothers
These past few days have been heartbreaking. Chris Jasper has left us, and only after mourning Roberta today. What a heartbreaking day. 💔
He died, two months after being diagnosed with cancer. He was 73
Chris Jasper, born on December 30, 1951, in Cincinnati, OH, was a brilliant songwriter, composer, producer, and master keyboardist who played a key role in shaping the Isley Brothers’ signature sound.
Chris older sister, Elaine, married Rudolph Isley when he was a teenager.
He started a band with the younger Isley Brothers (Marvin & Ernie) while attending Teaneck High School in New Jersey called "The Jazzman Trio"
After Rudolph, Ronald & O'Kelly relocated to New Jersey to start there careers.
Joining the group in the early 70s, he was instrumental in their transition to funk-infused R&B, contributing to timeless hits like “For the Love of You,” “Between the Sheets,” and “Footsteps in the Dark.”
His mastery of the moog synthesizer and lush keyboard harmonies helped define an era of soul and R&B music.
After leaving the Isleys, he pursued a successful solo career and continued producing, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
Rest in peace, Chris. Your music and legacy will live on forever.
